OT: NY Mets spring training thread

Anyone ever been to PSL?
I go down every years to Naples to see my Pops, and usually go to Sox, Twins and Rays but have never been to a game in PSL

Thinking about going to PSL this year
Anyone that's been, how would you rank it? The scene, vibe, stadium, etc. ?

Clover Park is a great little stadium. You get very close to teams
PSL is nice enough but we stay near Stuart or out on Hutchinson Island. Very good restaurants, nice beaches and fun small towns ( Ft Pierce, Stuart). Also close enough to go to Jupiter or Palm Beach easily We go for a week most years. My wife is the big fan. Enjoy

Mets will be traveling to the gulf coast, Fort Myers, on March 2 to play the Red Sox. Plan on driving from my home in Naples to watch the Mets game.

I'll be there. Any suggestions for the Ft Myers and Naples area?

Any chance they can make a swing thru AZ during spring training? 🤣🤣

Already have tickets for when they come to the Valley in May but may need to make a trip east before then. Can not wait to get this season started!

I agree, he proved he's a starter.
Butto started 7 games last year. 15 in his career. IMO he hasn't proven anything yet. In fact, I don't think he is a lock to make the opening day roster, although I think it is more likely than not.

EDIT: Butto is out of options. So the assumption is that he WILL make the opening day roster. He would have to play his way off the team, and will be given a lot of leeway.

I don't think we ever had a specific ST thread. Maybe we should start the regular one since P&C officially report today?

Restaurants yes. There's not much of a scene at ST games lol.
5th Ave is a favorite
Del Mar (top level preferably) Osteria Tulia and Cafe Milano are a few of our favorites
There's also a really good French spot there (which has American fare as well) - can't remember the name but it has the French flags outside

The beach is right there too, as are million-dollar houses on steroids. Take a drive around to see the views, and if you're so inclined, park the car and hop in the Gulf. We love Loudermill for the beach scene, but all of them are good

Sox - do the tour of Fenway South before the game. Well worth it, they let you on the field and often times you'll see guys meandering around. Got to talk to Dave Roberts and Jim Rice when we did it

We like the seats down the left field line, under the overhand. A favorite spot is halfway between 3rd base and the foul pole. Great little sausage stand that also serves beer, and the bathroom are right there as well (Pops is 73, so he's always on the lookout for them)

In between the tour and game, a lot of people (including us) were tailgating. Get a 12 pack and some sandwiches and enjoy the scene

Twins - Similar to the Sox, they have a bar down the left field line. This one though is massive, with seating all around it and a bunch of tvs. We got seats behind home plate the day of the game via stubhub and had a blast

I prefer Fenway South, but both stadiums are great

Thank you. Going to to the game so will check it out. Staying in Ft Myers right on the river I believe. Will be renting a car and hopefully checking out Naples but we'll see. See if some manatees are around as well at the park but that's all I got so far.

FM has a good downtown as well
The beach area still is pretty beat up from the hurricane (s)
Used to like going to the Pink Shell, a staple there
Sanibel is worth the trip to see, have to imagine they've been cleaning that up quicker due to tourist dollars $$ being lost

I have a rooftop pool at the hotel. I should be fine lol.

When I have guests visit or for special occasions I take them to 5th or 3rd. I do find 5th to be over priced with many average restaurants not worth the cost. Can’t go wrong with Del Mar except for the check. I also really enjoy Chops for a good steak however the bill is outrageous as well. Wherever you go highly recommend reservations at this time of year and the sooner the better.
Also about a month ago ate at Miramare in Venetian Bay. The best Italian restaurant I’ve eaten at in Naples as there are a lot of average Italian food. Miramare is also on the water so sitting outside it’s really nice.

I do as well. When I go to 3rd I tend to eat at Tommy Bahamas as I love their Cocunut Shrimp, Steak Tacos and Pina Colada Cake. Ridgway Grill is great and uses the nearby Tony’s Bakery for bread and desserts. I also sometimes stop at Badass Coffee to bring home my fix.

I was just thinking about our team we put on the field with comments

Lindor - elite defense legit 30/30 MVP type player
Soto - elite hitter MVP type player
Nimmo- elite on base guy with 20+ HR pop
Alonso - elite power/RBI 40/115
Vientos - 30+ HR guy
Marte/Winker- combined .270 20 HR clutch
Alvarez- possibility of 25+ HR and funny to say- elite behind the plate
McNeil- should be .290 with 30 doubles 10-15 HR
Siri- misses the ball more than he hits it but for 70% of years we have been around, he would have been our 4 or 5 hitter with 20-25HR - elite in the field.

That is really a hell of a batting order
