EDIT: A last second change by Bike NY for packet pick up from Manhattan to Brooklyn has scrapped our Manhattan ride. We are now going to ride down to Coney Island and back. We know Brooklyn from the Bridge to Prospect Park fairly well but always like to hear your thoughts. Our uncharted waters are from Prospect Park to Coney Island via Ocean Parkway. We don't want stray far from Ocean Parkway and again looking for personal experiences not Yelp reviews. Also has anyone been on Ocean Parkway riding their bike? Looks spacious and safe online but we never been. Thanks again. End EDIT
So I'm finalizing our annual Five Borough Bike Tour trip. As always the Saturday before we create our own ride with "rest stops" at watering holes that are breweries or great craft beer bars. The last few years have been in Astoria and Brooklyn. We never repeat the same route and rarely repeat the rest stops except the past two years where we doubled up on Singlecut Alesmiths, Double Windsor and Bar Great Harry.

No answers for you but looks like a great weekend. Have fun!

Lilly's Craft and Kitchen in Hell's Kitchen....9th between 47 & 46

No outdoor seating but has the garage door open

Two blocks down is Rudys

I won a new Trek FX 3 hybrid in a sales contest. Just came. Probably too late to enter this years 5 Boro , maybe next year. Haven’t ridden much in last couple years anyway, so might be too much for first time out anyway.
Is Cyclemap app worth putting on your iPhone and attaching to your handlebar? What else are good accessories?

For something like this ride a Cyclemap app might be usefull for directions but my fear is the phone coming loose doing 20 mph. You can kiss that phone goodbye.
Must haves before anything fancy are spare tube, tire lever ( for removing tire from rim) and a hand pump. Having an odometer that gives speed, avg, ride time etc is very useful when training. Planning which bars you are going to stop at is very useful to know beforehand too!!

Not really a craft beer bar, but worth checking out is the Ear Inn on Spring Street next to the West Side Highway.

There is also the formerly known as PONY Bar around 45th Street along 10th Ave.

Wow! Did not know PONY closed/moved.
Have heard of Ear before, on the list as one of NYC oldest bars. What's it like on a Saturday afternoon? Every picture I just saw looks like it's always crowded.

As/Is is the best beer bar on the west side by a country mile. 50th and 10th. No outdoor seating but they'll have the front windows opened.

The owners of PONY Bar split, the owners that kept the name own the location on the UES and the others kept the Hell’s Kitchen location but had to change the name. At least that is how it was explained to me at the PONY Bar once by a bartender.

I haven’t been to Ear Inn on a weekend, but weekdays after work it can get crowded. Being that it is located in a neighborhood (Hudson Square) that is largely office and commercial it might be tame on a weekend afternoon.

Ive been to Valhalla (9th/54th) a couple of times and enjoyed the craft beer selection.

So after all the planning I get an email from Bike NY today. For the first time they are announing that the Bicycle Expo where you pick up your particiation numbers is not going to be at Basketball City in Manahattan but has been moved to Pier 12 in Brooklyn. So it's back to the drawing board for routes and craft beer bars/rest stops.
Thanks anyway everyone for your suggestions.

Other half brewing and torst are some excellent choices for a Brooklyn itinerary.

Love Other Half brews. Only problem is the building itself. Last time we went there, about 3/4 years ago it was warm and their dumpsters were just outside on the sidewalk by the drinking area and it stunk. If it has changed we would love to go back.

OH has changed. They expanded to a much larger, modern space without dumpster fragrance. I'm sure their website or IG has some pictures of the new space.

Thanks. A top notch brewery.
Funny story. Had their hoppy Pale Ale first time there. It was identical to Neshaminy Creeks J.A.W.N. I'm friends with the owner/brewer of NCBC and told him about it. Several months later they both met and found out they both came up, independently with nearly the exact same recipe at the same time.

If you head towards the Verrazano Bridge, you can swing by Five Borough Brewing in Sunset Park.

Near Other Half there is Folksbier in Carroll Gardens, Strong Rope and Threes Brewing in Gowanus/Park Slope and there is also Circa Brewing in Downtown Brooklyn (owners came from Sixpoint).

Threes has a pilsner that won the NYS Craft Beer competition. I like Threes beer and they also have other really good brewery beers available on draft.

Unfortunately can't help too much in Brooklyn, especially with the route you described in your edit (outbound beyond Prospect Park down to C.I.). You and your crew may already know of the Brazen Head on Atlantic Avenue in Cobble Hill/Downtown which has a constantly rotating craft beer menu.

Even though it's off your intended route, another staple of mine is located the other way in Williamsburg....Radegast Hall. Fun, lively biergarten would be a good spot for a group such as yours. Though it's all imports (primarily German & Belgian, a few others mixed in) rather than craft beers so may not fit the bill.

Have been to Radegast Hall several times doing this. We love the place. It's on the possible list before we ride back over the Brooklyn Bridge back to our hotel. Time is usually our problem on this ride. We want to be settled into a place back in Manhattan in time to watch the Kentucky Derby.
Except those rare years when the Five Boro Bike Tour falls on May 1st the day of our ride is Derby Day.

Just looked Threes Brewing. Fits our return back as we will stop at Bar Great Harry. Wow, what a space inside! Beautiful

Has anyone ever been to The Kings Beer Hall in Brooklyn? Looks like a great spot.

So after last year's late change of packet pick up from Manhattan to Brooklyn this year's is back in Manhattan so we are rolling out last year's intended ride. Our biggest change is that our group nearly doubled to 12 people.
So far our ride starts at Ground Zero. Packet pick up at Pier 36. Cross Williamsburg Bridge to Radegast Beer Hall. On to Singlecut Beersmiths. Cross back into Manhattan via Roosevelt Tram. Complete lap around Central Park than onto some craft beer enjoyment as we work our way to our final stop, The Irish American for dinner and to watch the Derby. One of the few places willing to take a reservation near our hotel.
Was on a scout mission/bike ride yesterday. Loved both As Is and Ear Inn. Loved them both but concerned about their size and our group of 12.
So any other large good bar on the West Side from 59th and South you enjoy?
