All: I'm heading up for work to Wall Township later this month. Any restaurant suggestions, for dinner, within 20-30 minute drive?

Wall is pretty big, but depending on where (and WELL worth the ride), The Poached Pear on Arnold Avenue in Pt. Pleasant Beach. Excellent food; it is BYOB, so if you want wine buy before you go.

If you want surprisingly good Italian in a unpretentious strip mall location try Mossuto's
Route 35 just south of New Bedford Rd.
Not a first date or impress the clients kind of joint but good eating.

Go into Asbury Park, you have a ton. Also downtown Bradly Beach on main street no shortage of good places.

Via Veneto in Wall. Agree with Mossuto's as well. Both in strip Malls.
Lubranos also in Shop Rite plaza.
Daniels in Point & Avon.
Remingtons in Manasquan
Shipwreck Grill & Shipwreck Point

I work at one but never recommend it in open forum because I think it's bad form. Right on the border of Wall and Spring Lake Hghts for the last 76 years.

Maybe someone else will lol.

I'm not into fancy and needless frills. My favorite spot is the Squan Tavern. Also partial to Harrigans on Rt 71.

Knightfan, have you been to Maria's recently? Used to love it, but we went a few times after she retired and both times were less than favorable. Have been to Squan exclusively since then. I'm curious if they fixed things.

Fancy or casual? If casual I like Cielito Lindo for authentic Mexican and Jersey Shore BBQ. Since it's nice out, maybe ice cream at Macanico's after. All in Belmar.

Shogun Legends on Route 34: incredible sushi and good seafood dishes..
I used to love Shogun Legends but last time I went about three weeks ago the calamari was like rubber and the brown sauce in the scallop and fillet mignon was like water with brown food coloring. My wife said the sushi was still excellent but was very disappointed in my meal. And I had good experiences there for several years now.

Maria's? No. Last time I went 2? years ago I said I'll never go back. Portions were small and not very tasty. I've heard it's better but would not recommend it without seeing for myself.

The Squan is kind of a family thing.

The 4 Winds is another decent place. Menu is kind of limited though.

Hmm, that's disappointing to hear. Two summers ago everything ordered was delicious, and it's good to know that my favorite sushi is still excellent.

Ding Ding Ding.

Ignoring for a moment all the TV/movie stars, musicians, and pro athletes I've crossed paths with, how bad can a place be if you've met such luminaries as E5fdny and White Bus there?
Whatever happened to the Old White Bus?

Maybe he took my advice and is practicing for the Senior Tour. If so, I'm disappointed he didn't take me up on my offer to tote his bag.
I posted some golf stuff and even linked him in a TW thread and yet no response. Has not been seen here over the last few weeks.

How long have you been there? I remember when it was the Old Mill Inn. The fire at the Old Mill Inn in 1984 was one of the first major structure fires I went to when I started as a volunteer firefighter.

Ok, thanks. Just checking. It's been about 2 years since we last went as well, and I don't know anybody who has been back recently.

I like the Four Winds as well. We tend to rotate between Squan Tavern, the 4 Winds, and Simkos on occasion. Don't seem to stray too far from home. Up to some of the places in Asbury once and a while, but that's about it. Haven't been over to your place since the Joe Amiel days I think.

if in wall would also recommend Lubrano's -good BYOB place.

depending what you are looking for there is always Kellys a mere pitching wedge away. A ton of good restaurants on 71 in Bradley Beach. and Asbury is not to far - - such as Moonstruck.

Weekends '96-'09, FT since. Now semi-retired working 2-5 shifts a week depending on what they need. Mostly private functions.

I remember the fire. I was living in Bedminster at the time.

I proposed to my wife at the Mill in '83 then had to start working weekends there in '96 to help pay the lawyers and support after the divorce. Isn't a day I walk in the building I don't curse that lapse in judgement lol.

Well, we have different memories of disasters at the "old" Old Mill Inn. LOL. I went to the Old Mill School for 5th grade. We plan to move back to that area (Heights/Wall border) once our kids are out of high school. Great area.

I tried a newer restaurant recently -- Simply Southern in Belmar. It is in the same plaza as 10th Ave Burrito and Jersey Shore BBQ. BYOB. Reasonably priced. Not the best restaurant I ever went to in my life, but I left stuffed, and it was something a little different for around here.

Place is owned by former Giant Rasheed Simmons. Nice guy, and his mother is executive chef. We need to get back there. Good Southern cookin'.

I had been sick in bed for a few days when the old Plectron went off for that call. I was WTFA&RS. Jumped out of bed saying "Sounds big, can't miss this call." Nearly toppled over from dehydration I suppose, thought better of it and went back to bed.

I think I graduated with your sister Jean, who also went to Rutgers. Right? I was on Wall Community FAS and South Wall Fire Co (now SWFR) in the mid-late 1980's.
