OT -- Rutgers' law schools now officially merged

The key to this merger will be to distinguish over other areas schools in both Phila and NYC by offering hands on experiences accessible through the larger institutions that other institutions cannot easily manage and/or provide. One way to do that is focus on communities where the schools are to develop practical training and experience. For example, both Camden and Newark have large underprivileged communities. Leverage the school to expand clinic programs to get more trial experience. Also, leverage each campus for cross disciplinary training. For example, cross more aggressively with the business schools to offer clinics related to corporate law. The engineering school and agriculture/food programs offer other unique opportunities.

Senton Hall Law is still very much located in Newark last I checked, so the Rutgers Law School locations are fine.

Law schools should be in the neighborhoods with the most lawsuits and cases which tend to be big cities.

I don't think that's particularly important - Michigan's law school is in Ann Arbor, Stanford is in Palo Alto, Cal's in Berkeley, etc.

I keep reading that lawyers are not making much money these days. I know someone who has paid a divorce lawyer $60,000 in the last 15 months who said the divorce "should" be finalized by the end of the year,so who knows how much he will charge by the time it is all over. Is this the norm or an unusually high amount ?

Well, it depends. It doesn't sound like an amicable divorce.

On the question of what lawyers make, I think the salaries people talk about are what you make out of law school, not what someone who's established can earn. (And a starting lawyer in a law firm gets a lot less than what she or he bills.)

Like most things, it depends on the specific facts of the situation, but that's high for a run of the mill divorce. My guess would be that there are significant assets at issue and the two people despise each other and are fighting over everything.

She is the one who wanted the divorce and is trying to wring every last penny from him (a nice guy by the way). She is the one who cheated on him,but wants him to pay for the $600,000 house for the next 5 years, wants $10,000 A MONTH alimony, child support, wants him to pay for undergrad and grad schools for two kids at the schools of her approval, him to pay for 100% health coverage for the kids until mid-20's, and wants him to pay HER lawyer too. I don't use the kind of language that appropriately describes her.

A contested divorce involving a lot of assets and custody issues can easily cost that in even less than 15 months. And as for lawyers making less money - the market have been a bit over-saturated, but the term "lawyers" is a bit misleading since there are so many sub-categories in the profession - many partners at the top tier firms, general counsels of some large companies and lawyers at some smaller, but successful plaintiffs' firms still make in the multiple millions and legal aid lawyers still make as little as $50K or less. And the permutations in between are legion.

There ya go.

Seton Hall is right across from the PATH, which is a much nicer and safer part of Newark.
