OT: Rutgers To Offer Aerospace Engineering Degree

FWIW I'm doing Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering and got into both Rutgers and Purdue for that, and chose RU.

Not trying to pick on you, but this is what made me angry with the Mech department. Students kept saying that they are getting a B.S. degree in Mech & Aerospace and that could not be further from the truth. I brought this up with the department when we got our diplomas but did not hear a word back. I do apologize, Dave, if you are indeed getting a B.S in Mech AND a B.S. in Aero but most people are not and it is very misleading.

Rutgers looking into creating a four-year Education degree at Rutgers. Not only would this increase the number of Rutgers grads teaching in New Jersey schools, but some of them would also be coaches in various sports which should help some in getting New Jersey athletes to go to their own university. Have any of you heard any movement on the four-year Education degree ?

I've been talking about this since the Shea years. Absolutely stupid shoot yourself in the foot sort of Rutgers standard operating procedure.

For kids that want to play sports and be coaches afterward you are basically telling them you have to hang around to get a graduate degree.

Some school districts actively discourage hiring masters qualified teachers because they have to start them a a higher pay rate.

Plus kids know if they do get a BS/A in Ed they can get a job and often have the school system pay for the masters.

So come to Rutgers spend an extra year and more tuition to get a degree that disadvantages you in the job market over a program offered by every one of our competitors.

My high school was set up in the 60s by a Rutgers grad who hired a bunch of RU grads. Over the years they have been replaced by grads from basically everywhere but Rutgers. So that now a Jersey high school has more alums from Kutztown State on the faculty than the State U flagship.

Good move School of Education.
