My wife and I work in the city and take NJ Transit everyday from Monmouth Cty. Since we have a dinner tonight and our train runs once per hour after 8:30pm we decided to drive to Secaucus junction. 12 hour weekday parking is $29 and if you go over 12 hours the 24 hour rate is $32. The parking rates at Secaucus have steadily climbed over the years. They really need to add additional lots near the station. By the way Io saw that monthly parking is $430 a month.
I know a lot of people that drive to various park and rides because of unavailable parking at train stations. For Secaucus you are looking at $430 to park plus $126 for a monthly train pass plus potential Turnpike tolls. That is pricey and crazy.
I am guessing that those who live in Bergen county in a town without a train station can't get parking at the train stations since many of the towns are resident only forcing them to either bus it or drive to Secaucus.
Some may talk about Harrison and the Path but we wanted less connections on a nicer train (not a standing subway) from midtown and the PATH runs less often at night where we may have to wait for trains. Plus the PATH will get us home 20-30 mins later than a NJ transit to Secaucus and then drive with light traffic.
