OT: Seton Hall receives $5m gift

A program that wins championships and provides stirring moments on the court and on the field increase the chances dramatically for large donations. Everyone loves a winner. The school's administration missed the boat on this many years ago.

Who says they haven't? We just received a seven-figure donation to completely overhaul the weight room, and word is the Big Ten Build Fund is going quite well only a few months into it. Also, our year-to-year donations to athletics and the university overall continue to rise. Are donations where we want them to be? No, not yet. But that doesn't mean that RU alums are keeping their wallets closed. To the contrary, they are open more than ever before.

Ive been active in Cornell fundraisers that have endowed at least 6 sports....meaning those sports now cost the university NOTHING to run.

Cornell also has a HUGE endowment. 6 BILLION dollars.

One thing we DONT do is put the squeeze on alums that are just working stiffs trying to get ahead.

The money comes from deep pockets and mostly in BIG amounts. Much of it is from peoples wills when they pass.
People who love their school and that want to aligned with their university
At RU...Yurcak...a former lax player that funded the lacrosse field is a good example

Cornell wanted a new TECH building. It didnt squeeze the alums. Bill Gates built it for FREE and he isnt even an alum.

Its about good connections...

Didn't Hobbs say there will be announcement about the practice facility sometime during April ? Let's hope shovels are in the ground sometime late Spring or Summer.

How many posters will have Rutgers in their wills? The people dying now probably never saw a football game.

The posters that plan on moving out of NJ in retirement for tax reasons can donate 25-50% of the tax saving to Rutgers for the tailgating and games memories or even the NJ experience.

With specific teams it's also important to have an active group of former players. A group of former Dartmouth lax players got serious 5-6 years ago and Friends of Dartmouth Lacrosse now brings in about 350k per year. And the team has only made the NCAAs once in the last 15 years. Endowment is just getting started.

Of course that pales in comparison to what the rugby alumni do.

Now only if admissions would get on the bandwagon.

Knew a guy - class of '49 Engineering who left over $6M to RU in his will a few years back. It only appeared in the alumni magazine, barely a mention anywhere else. I believe that was in part due to the fact that there have been many larger donations? Anyone know what some of our top donations have been?

Wow, that's a lot of money.

show's how little some on here know--RU has gotten many, many large donations over the years- no where near what we need or what some others get but this self loathing needs to stop
