OT: ShopRite London Broil Inflation!

Well yea that’s everything in the grocery stores these days.
I dropped off some food at the local food pantry the other day and the lady told me they are busier than ever. Went on to say you would be surprised at how many people rely on this to get by. If you have one in your town make the effort to donate. A little goes a long way. They also have a thrift shop in town here that is free for anyone who walks in. Anytime I drop off bags of clothes there’s always a handful of people in their shopping. I started doing it for tax purposes but that’s kind of not impactful any longer. still good to see people are able to benefit from things we don’t need

Stop eating meat. That's what Bill Gates and the progressives want. Insects are plentiful and cheaper. And there's fake meat too. Supply/demand.

6 months ahead of time, but in Bergen County the Center For Food Action has a Thanksgiving program where for about $55. ($49 when I started 10-12 years ago) a family gets a 12-14 lb. turkey, gravy, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and other fixings. I'm up to 5 per year. They're up to about 3000 per year. The deduction is "gravy".

We donate a decent amount of food to the local food pantry and my wife volunteers there at times. Way better to donate than throw away. Same thing with old clothes.

They're not wrong, although I can't imagine ever not eating meat. Too much of a carnivore. Time for a sausage and peppers sandwich (cooked up some really good sausages yesterday from Bagliani's Italian market in Hammonton).

I think the premise is those individuals will continue to eat high-end meat while eliminating it for the commonfolk.

Anyways, i have never had a lobro worth its weight. Remarkably underwhelming meat.

$2.99 a pound now. Guess they haven't 'learned anything from Costco
Stop your crying. I guess you are just another guy looking for attention starting another ShopRite thread when there is a Lobo thread already on the first page. When is the last time you have paid just $1.99 a pound for baby back ribs? Same circular add as the Lobo. Have you seen the price of chicken wings lately. They were $1.99 a pound a few weeks ago at ShopRite

Obviously I prefer better cuts of steak but nothing wrong with LoBro once in a while. For those of us that grew up in large families, it was a cheap meal to feed all.

Get the Angus cut (around 1.7 lbs). Season with Montreal. If you have a good Weber grill, pre-heat to 400+ and then 8-9 minutes one side and flip for 7-8 (with the lid down). Cooking times vary with the thickness and type of grill but it's so easy. Marinated is fine as well.

Brings back a lot of childhood memories - my Dad grilling a big old loBro on the Weber charcoal grill with a thick paste of salt covering the meat. Don't ask me why but it was usually good.

Agree on the LoBro it has lost its grilling rank over the past20 years. The preparation is key as all the experts here can attest to We cut back drastically on red meats over the past 15 years though a porterhouse or filet mignon or great roast will make me say, “ it’s all good.” The meat itself has changed due to feed, and probably additives . I’ll take any other options over something most enjoyed for years.

It was a decent grill option from the 1970’s up until the past 20 years. Oyster cut was a more tender piece and there were many who swore by it. The reality is it is a cheaper cut of meat but if prepared properly can produce a great meal choice.

Exactly - my mom couldn't afford high end steaks after my parents got divorced when I was 9, so LoBro was a good, inexpensive option, which when cooked well (she always marinated it and added butter to the meat right after cooking, giving extra flavor) made for a very good family meal.

Tastes just fine cooked medium rare/medium with homemade chimichurri sauce.

That is a recycled thread from last year.

Excuse my ignorance: as someone completely unfamiliar with LoBro, what is an oyster cut?
You have several cuts of London Broil.Flat Cut, Oyster cut if I remember correctly . While the oyster cut is more easily tenderized for grilling purposes. It is the beef in this country which has been changed or engineered to produce more on the hoof. If you like Lo Bro it’s not bad.

Best way is to seal it in a plastic bag, then drive over it a few times with your car.
I found the best way to tenderize is place it in a plastic bag, throw it in the garbage, and go out and buy a real steak.

:)

I bought a flank steak instead. Usually around $12/lb with today's ridiculous prices, but they were being sold for $8.99/lb. I bought the biggest one I could find and grilled it up last night.

We do Flank Steak often however you really have to have a good marinate for them. You grill them wrong and it's much tougher than LoBro. We usually have a flank steak tailgate early in the season.
