As the #1 portal transfer prospect, RJ is holding out his hands to see how many bags of cash people will stuff into them.
and you cant really blame him. If he doesnt go in the lottery for the draft he may make more back in college
Yeah he was like 1-17 and getting abused on defense. Bad body language because of offensive struggles, it was a bad showing, not surprised he's transferring..
I think UConn might be interested in getting the Big East player of the year.Obviously,he would be a difference maker at Rutgers similar to Spencer.
The rumors are that St John's had their eyes on Providence Forward, Bryce Hopkins via the portal, since St John's 1st & 2nd round games were in Providence last week/weekend......apparently, St Johns people met with Hopkins or representatives from Hopkins and he was made a significant offer to consider and transfer to St Johns....now I don't know if the St Johns offer triggered Hopkins to enter the portal OR Hopkins was going to enter the portal anyway.....but Hopkins portaled and the number offered must have been significant.
Then RJ Luis or his people heard about the offer made to Hopkins either the day after the Omaha game on Thursday and might not have taken the news well about what Hopkins was offered......and RJ Luis went out and either had a discussion with St Johns about his number OR what his number could have been going forward and would he and Hopkins be paired together or paid in a similar amount.
Apparently, this rumor is that RJ Luis was not thrilled with the Hopkins news and it let him effect him....so much so that his demeanor and body language looked like someone who was upset with Pitino or St Johns.....now, Arkansas and their athletes had a lot to do with Luis being shut down....but Pitino post game comments were very vague.
There's no way to confirm this is what took place, but given how Pitino sat on Luis for the stretch run of the Arkansas game and how poorly Luis played, maybe Pitino didn't have a choice.....and Luis either felt burned or betrayed.
Hopkins (to my knowledge) could easily pick Georgetown, where his former HC, Ed Cooley is coaching, but there's more smoke surrounding St Johns and Hopkins.

Shouldn't you wait to see who Pitino replaces him with before saying he can't deal with it.
why? none of the" experts" waited--- they crowned him a sure thing that would go far in ncaas and could hold and get any player he wanted. how did that work out--his top player and poy in bigeast is in portal and is attacking his coaching.

Pitino at St.Johns won the Big East Championship and was a number two seed in the NCAA Tournament with mediocre outside shooters.Luis had a terrible shooting game but he should have been put back in the last minutes of the game. Fans need to concentrate on the flaws of Rutgers teams that make them non competitive in the B1G Ten.Deflecting criticism away from Rutgers seems to be some fans strategy but the media won't let that happen.

Other people getting rich are all these agents. NIL has made it big paydays for them. And they are part of the problem. Shopping their people around every year.

It is tough to be a college fan, when it is now all about money ,and the players having playing time leverage
College used to be better than pro bb, now its almost the same
Pitino did an amazing job in a very short time, once again
He is a high octane coach with a lot of money behind him
In that environment, of course there is going to be turmoil, concerning money paid and maybe a new guy just bought with more than you have

He has now established St Johns as a winner, playing in just about the best venue

The real truth is for all the glory news about big money and the portal, HS players not being recruited and hundreds of college players changing schools will not be getting degrees due to the jumping around.For all the guys who have the ability to make $ there are thousands who won't while giving up scholarships The one thing great about college sports was many who would never have had the chance for a degree got one and made lives for themselves out of sports.
We can hope that is an undercurrent of non Prime time players who go to one college for 4years and are happy with minor NIL money, if any
