OT: Syracuse game

Syracuse is going to be a problem for us, Fran is doing a decent job his first year and his main recruiting base is New Jersey
Syracuse has 1 New Jersey recruit in 2025, Rutgers has 10 NJ recruits, Wake Forest has 4 NJ recruits, Stanford has 4 NJ recruits, Penn State has 4 NJ recruit, Ohio State 3 Nj recruits and BC has 2 NJ recruits.

Rutgers ranked 21st in team rating and Syracuse is 36 in rating. 8 of our recruits are ranked higher than Syracuse one recruits ranked at 24th. Syracuse is the least of our worries. Once Kyle McCord is gone next year, they are the same Syracuse as the past 5 years. McCord is one of the few good players on their team.

Syracuse does not play in a power conference

The raided ACC is like the raided Big East compared with the Big Ten

Syracuse isn’t going to really get anyone that Rutgers wants unless there is a strong Syracuse connection

Only 2 conferences will matter in the future

Big Ten and SEC

Everyone else is on the outside looking in.

And recruits know that especially when you look at NIL and the ability for schools to pay top tier athletes

It ends up just being a money game and the big ten and sec will have a huge advantage there over the rest to buy the top players and coaches they need to succeed

Rutgers should be a northeastern powerhouse in the future on that alone (provided Schiano is still a competent HC here). A consistent 9-11 win team with a weaker OOC schedule most years (within 5yrs from now).

The Top 20 Programs that on paper get the best recruits (Rival 5/4 star) will continue to get them.

However, Nil will not change that except for the fact that those teams will have to pay them (NIL recruits) to get the same ones they got for free so to speak.

Good players who have their sights set on the NFL won't want to sit on the bench and be a backup player with minimal exposure and will look to the portal to play.

Another poster mentioned that acquiring a good QB can carry a team with more limited potential.

I totally agree with his comments.

Pitt got a transfer QB from Alabama (leave Alabama for Pitt) (Eli Holstein - Louisiana player of the year out of High School)
and is now starting QB for Pitt as a red shirt frosh.

Sit on the Bench for Alabama or start for Pitt.

Many other players will be also making those decisions, sit on the SEC or B1G bench or transfer and play. Pitt has had 17 players drafted by the NFL (7 rounds) in the last 4 years.

Its still too early to say how good Eli Holstein will be but he has been rather impressive so far (IMO) in being able to engineer two come from behind 4th quarter wins for Pitt (gaining experience and confidence).

Starting and playing QB for Pitt can be financially rewarding (Kenny Pickett a Rival 3-star recruit from NJ and 1st round NFL Draft Pick).

Well Pitt and Rutgers will play a couple of competitive games today (Rutger-Nebraska and Pitt-North Carolina) and I will be watching both games.

Don't know if Pitt will win but our Frosh QB is a true competitor who will be gaining experience.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

UNLV didn’t look like a ranked team. Cuse looked ok, but they are also not a ranked team.

D
watching the game there is an announcer who has a horrible voice . then i see the cheerleaders they are the worst i have ever seen . wtf?

3 scores in a row by unlv nice.
Don't make fun of Petros. USC legend. He's been doing college games for a long time.

What N. Carolina team have you been watching? The one I've seen so far, absolutely sucks. N.Carolina is a horrible football team.
Mack hasn’t been able to get the defense right since he got there. I think one year they might have been okay but that’s about it.

I’m thinking it might be his last year, by his own accord though.

I don't know UNC had one very bad loss to James Madison, beat Minnesota and lost to Duke 20-21 (3-2).

EDIT: Minnesota beat #11 ranked USC.

I don't know how good UNC is but would not characterize them as terrible.

Also at this point in the season I don't know how good Pitt is.

After last years 3-9 season, I would look at Pitt going Bowling (6-6) this year as an improvement playing with a frosh QB.

Too early in the season to really know how good Rutgers and Pitt are.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Good win for Cuse. They can pat themselves on the back for "their second win over a ranked team" 🙄 Charmin-soft schedule. Miami should light them up, but they'll pile up wins & crow about it.

He has 2 Rutgers legacy players
WTF???
Syracuse only has 1 top NJ player so far in their 2025 Class. Good for us.
Last year however Brown and Staff had major success with NJ recruits. They got 7 of the Top 20 Recruits. Players we offered. Hopefully they don’t keep winning in 2024.

Still don’t like a Bellamy and a McCord in Orange

Who were the 7 we went head to head for? I believe a few of those kids signed with them as our class was mostly complete and we had moved on. I think there was 1 or maybe 2 that we would have liked.

UNLV looked like a good team that just falls short of being ranked, Syracuse ( hate to say it) looks like they might be around a 23-25 ranked team.

Lequint Allen is the player I give credit to for the win
His stats weren't great but he wouldn't be stopped, even when it looked like he was, when the Orange needed a first down to continue their drive to to tie the game and put it into overtime.

I could be wrong but here are the Cuse commits from NJ last year that we offered:
WR Hornsby
DL Watson
WR Hailel
DE Brown
RB Willis
DL Miles

I don’t what happened with WR Ross. He was the 8th ranked overall NJ recruit and went to Sara. Maybe we didn’t offer? Statistically we basically tied with Sara in the 2024 Recruiting Rankings nationally. 2025 has a great start for our Class. Need to keep it together and add a few blue chips.

Two true freshman on the 2 deep so it's not much of a loss.

Maybe. I’m not convinced. I am interested to see them play VT, BC, Pitt and Miami.

Not easy to compare recruits due to different position but our 2 WR from GA and NC are higher ranked. We wouldn’t offer DL Miles too low and DE Brown was a linebacker and we had higher recruit ranked. RB Willis is good but we offered a RB from Florida.

We have 5 4 stars in 2025 and Syracuse has no 4 stars recruit.

I believe the RB Willis even visited us 7 or 8 times befor he committed to them. Tells me his “offer” was not committable
Others were similar.
