ever think you'd see that in your lifetime?

I'd like to TA&M completely dominate that state and leave Texas to become the Ohio U of Texas.

This is awesome. Talk about an ego check for Texass. I'm sure they assumed he would obviously take the job.

Why would he or anybody for that matter go to work for Charlie Strong at this point? Another season like this one and he is history.

Texas is proving that now more than ever talent alone isn't enough to win 10 or 11 games per year--or even enough to keep from getting pushed around and embarrassed on occasion. To that end it doesn't make much sense to jump to a program that has obviously been struggling to find adequate coaching for some time now. The other coaches will only bring you down.

I saw that and was a little surprised but not completely. I've suggested that Texas should go after Cumbie and they did with 1M+ offer but I'm guessing TCU must have upped his salary although I'm not sure if they would have gone as far as Texas. I think the biggest thing is Strong's job security. Even with the salary, his upward trajectory could get derailed if Strong were to get fired.

Meacham was only making 350 and I'd guess Cumbie must be similar. I read they were willing to go to 1M for Cumbie if Meacham left to North Texas. Meacham stayed so maybe go to 700K for both of them. Might not be as much as Texas but the security of Patterson vs Strong might be enough to make up the difference. I'd like to see what TCU did with their salaries this offseason.

I heard Cumbie was about to accept the TX offer, but an intriguing offer came in late yesterday that has given him pause for thought, so he turned TX down and is, for the moment, saying he's staying where he is. Reportedly, the offer comes from "somewhere in the Northeast".

It was also reported that, when asked what would cause him to consider the mystery offer, he responded cryptically with: "Meus ventus est lignum Fraxinus americana".

He's on Ash's list. So is Spatival.

Really, kinda of surprised by that. Go after Meacham then if that be the case. I like him better than the other 2. Or how about Eddie Gran from Cincy, I've mentioned him a few times. He seems like a more realistic get to me and would be familiar with the midwest and Florida, 2 recruiting grounds we'd probably like to hit.

They both should be. Wouldn't that be awesome? Not holding my breath, though.
$700,000 a year over 5yrs. sounds a hell of a lot better than $700,000 a year over possibly 1 yr. One could only hope.
