Will face UNC in finals

Today was a great day for college lacrosse

Turtles will eat the Heels up on Monday. Love the way Brown came back and their goalie made some off the wall saves to do it. Loyola was sleeping on D in the 1st quarter and never could recover.

I agree with you. I think Maryland men (and the women for that matter) beat Carolina for the national championship. Loyola's defense was embarrassing for most of the game. I think the Terps are just too athletic, too experienced, and too talented on both sides of the ball to not break the streak this year.

Maryland sweeping both the men's and women's national championships would be HUGE for Big Ten lacrosse.

UNC is firing on all cylinders right now and playing together. My money is on Maryland, their experience and professionalism in how they go about their business is very replicable game to game. Even so, UNC is hot. I'm expecting a close game.

The women is not that important. B1G teams have won 10 of the last 12 and 21 of 35 overall. The next closest conference is the ACC who has won 5.

Good call, Carolina won both.
Who do you like in the Belmont?

Touché. Disappointing, for sure, but it's not like Maryland won its only national championship in 1949 or anything like that. I'm sure there will be others. I will admit that watching my Terps make 8 of the possible 16 Final Fours since 2000 and not win a title sucks, but I prefer that to them never having made the Final Four at all.

My sympathies. They lost a game that they had in the bag.

Thanks. It's Maryland Lacrosse. They've been losing games they should win for years. I'm used to it. Still sucks though. They will get back there, I'm sure. Tillman is too good to not win a title or two.

Tillman doesn't impress me. He can recruit, but Maryland could always recruit. He has a ton of talent on that team and just can't help the over coaching. His team should be ridden like a race horse, yet he treats it like Clydesdale.

He seems like a good guy, but his coaching style is missing something.

Agree Cali, though last year beat some good teams but lost to others and got handled in the finals with Denver. this year. though beat a good Syracuse team and barely beat Brown still thought there talent would best UNC. Sounds like a lot of the game day coaching of FB coach GS.

I think he's a good guy, too. And you're right, he stands in the way sometimes, particularly with this years team. On the other hand, I get that winning a title is important, especially at a place like Maryland, but if you add just one national title to the Tillman's resume at MD, he'd be considered the next coming of the lacrosse god.

2011-2016 (six seasons)
  • 5 NCAA Final Four appearances
  • 4 NCAA National Championship game appearances
  • 4 ACC/B1G Conference Championships
  • 2 ACC/B1G Tournament Championships
  • 80-26 (.755) win-loss record (most by any six-year Maryland coach)
  • Top-10 scoring defenses each season since 2011
  • 32 wins in last two seasons (most in NCAA)
  • 14 NCAA tournament wins (most in NCAA)
  • 38 All-Americans
  • 26 MLL draft selections
  • MLL-record six picks in top-19 selections of 2016 draft
There might be 3 or 4 schools in the country who wouldn't take that six year run. I'm not saying it doesn't seem...odd that he hasn't won a title yet. I'm just not sure the absence of a title from that resume makes me question his entire coaching philosophy.

Tillman is entering the final year of his seven-year $150K (plus performance incentives) contract, a contract that Under Armour matches dollar for dollar. If you're Maryland's AD, what would you do? Not re-up the guy and take a chance on hiring a coach that won't bring you the success Tillman has AND not win a title? He's been incredibly successful at Maryland and has won a ton of games with his style. He'll get a title.
