OT: Texas to no longer play a spring game, Steve Sarkisian confirms

What does the SEC network say about this ?

I believe there will soon be a 2 game spring “season”. Need more revenue to pay all the hungry mouths

So this is basically a ploy for the big boys to keep their depth charts secret and keep four/five-star talent from hitting the portal?

Cowards. Maybe the conferences should require it.

Makes perfect sense to me. Nothing is accomplished from a coaching, decision making standpoint at a spring game. We can have a much more productive situational “scrimmage” without the distraction of fans in the stadium. If it is about getting better, situational preparation and minimizing injury I’m okay. As a fan I am all for giving up the opportunity to tailgate. The spring game is merely a meet and greet with some “fake football” thrown in. I would rather the team utilize that day as a real practice getting younger players involved.

Wish we would do the same. The game is useless. It would be better to have an open practice.

The purpose of the spring game is as a reward to the players for having to workout and practice for four months all spring. This is especially true for the kids that never get to play in real games. Canceling it is a mistake.

Depth charts are meaningless in spring! Everything is decided in the summer.

The conference can't require a Spring game, that isn't part of the season.

Tha faux outrage on here is hysterical! Why does anyone care about someone cancelling a friggin spring game? I'm sure none of you hopped a flight to Austin to watch Texas play their spring game!

Some of us here actually enjoy spring games
After long, hard and cold winters, it's a chance for us to come out with our buddies, throw a few back, talk ball and see the boys in action

I understand schools not wanting to do them due to NIL/Portal/etc.
But have an open practice (which, they spring games essentially were anyway) so fans can get their fix - and, if need be, hold out some of your top guys so they won't get injured, or others whom you think may get poached

Spring games are one of my favorite days of the year
I've gone local and flew down for games respectively, and always had a blast

Another good idea is to make club seats available for purchase, in addition to charging a nominal fee for regular seats
Great chance for fans who normally don't sit there to experience it

Personally I couldn’t care less about the Spring Game or any concept of “giving the fans something”.
Have attended before and really don’t get all the fan fare.

But this makes sense to me. Giving something to the players for a completed spring practice season.
Good argument for keeping it.
