How long can he realistically stay at Houston? He's making approx. $3 million per year. He has the program rolling and just scored a 5 star transfer in Kyle Allen. Will he even be there when Allen hits the field? If HCCA can bring anything close to the impact Herman has had it will be a homerun.

He can stay there a long time if he wants. When will a coach stand up and say: this is enough for me, this is the right balance of quality of life/opportunity/money for what I want out of life? He is in a state with zero state income tax. Expectations are high but reasonable: I doubt Houston alumni expect Houston to be the Group of Five representative every year, but they will expect to contend for the AAC title every season. Plenty of talent to recruit to Houston even after the bigger name Texas programs get theirs. Granted that if someone comes along and offers him a four year contract worth $6+ million a year, that's a huge difference over $3 million per, but I would like to see somebody take a stand and say I'm happy where I am.

An SEC school is likely to offer him something ridiculous like 6 mill if he keeps Houston high.

I'm inclined to agree. Houston is the 4th largest city and 5th largest metro area in the US. The amount of talent in Texas and the the surrounding areas is practically limitless. Houston plays in a brand-new, $120M stadium that seats 40,000 and can be expanded to 60,000. Quite frankly, Houston may be even more of a sleeping giant than Rutgers. I can easily see Herman staying there and turning it into a consistent powerhouse and the Big XII or SEC grabbing them up in an inevitable expansion.

likely they may be a prime candidate for Big 12 expansion - even more so with continued success. They were very successful during their tenure in the defunct South West conference winning titles in 76, 78 ., 79 and 84

Assuming Strong doesn't last at Texas, I assume they'll make a big push for Herman.

We once had a guy who turned down the big boys to stay at RU, while in the BE, and I'll always wonder if Schiano would've left if he knew the B1G invite was coming. Maybe, maybe not.

As long as he wants if he keeps winning. Probably until A&M or Texas (or maybe Ohio State? After Urban? Please?) come calling.
Nope. You will have Schiano leading the program when Urban is done and I hope that is soon.

He'll take the Texas job. Question is when does Applewhite take a HC job. He's ready now.

in order for Houston to become that Giant, they have to get into one of the major conferences... If it was done now, Herman might be there for a very long time..... Without that, he could be poached.....

They don't bring much as far as new territory or viewers though. Even Herman was complaining earlier this year about fan support at the games.

I doubt it, but I don't have a crystal ball. Urban is not going anywhere in the next few years. Greg, I'm assuming, will get an opportunity before the Ohio State job opens. When Urban does decide to hang it up, Schiano is only 2 years younger, so depending on how long Urban sticks around, it could age Schiano out of the window.

Either way, garyrc70 is right. Herman will get the first call. Maybe he's at Texas by then and he's settled, maybe there's a new hot coordinator who's come through in the meantime. Maybe Ash kills it and he gets the call...

We're probably at least 4-5 years away from finding any of this out.

If they move to a power conference, that along with Houston booster money, a coach would have a good situation set up for a long time

My inside sources told me that Urban will coach for 1 more year and turn it over to Schiano.

If Urban leaves, I think OSU takes Herman before GS...

Don't know where this started, but GS IS NOT there to take over after Urban leaves. Ridiculous. And yes, the two schools that Herman's name is tied into most frequently is 1.) Texas and 2.) OSU down the road. Texas is the one with the real shot here especially if the program doesn't start improving under Strong. 2017 or 2018 maybe ?

If you're serious with this, I'm really curious where it's coming from. I'm not an insider by any means, but I do know some former players and people around the program and none of them...seriously not one...have heard anything like this. The only place I've heard anything like it is here, when someone claimed that Urban was leaving to go to Cleveland next year and taking the entire staff with him.

Just screwing around. I have no inside sources at OSU. I just hope Schiano takes over so he can play not to lose and have his offense run three times and punt in the 4th quarter of a close game instead of trying to score.

Houston is the 5th largest if you count Brooklyn separately.

Herman is a competitor. He wants to win a National Title. Unless Houston moves into a Power 5 Conference, and soon...he won't be there long. But I don't think he'll leave for "any ole job." He turned down USCjr. for a reason. I have to think Texas would be a job he would really have to consider...JMO

That is a laugh. Meyer is just letting Greg "Park" at osu till he get a HC gig somewhere else!
osu would never turn their program to Schiano. Dream on
BTW Urban is not going anywhere, he will retire from osu or become the osu AD/President
(the president part is a joke for all you people who for get to turn on the sarcastic meter today)

Herman is in an advantageous position like no other... Houston has got a wealth of talent. Any descent talent evaluater and coach can find success there. He know this which is why he chose that school in that perticular region of that state. They can easily become the next Miami Hurricanes of college football. They don't need to recruit 4 and 5 start kids when they can develop them on their own. The Houston area very much like New Jersey in terms of athletes, long tuff kids who can run like horses.
