OT: UMd Buzzer Beater

Ace had some struggles this year but to say he was not a positive difference maker for our team is crazy. Most of the rest of the roster was the problem, but not Ace and Dylan. https://www.barttorvik.com/playerst...ear=2025&minmin=0&start=20241101&end=20250501
Agree 100%. I don't know anyone can compare Ace to Queen or Flagg when their situations are so different. Those two are surrounded by very high level talent allowing them to play to their potential. Ace didn't have that opportunity.

Very few refs call that travel in that situation. CSU should have denying him the ball near the basket
Its a travel in the first minute and a travel in the last minute. Three refs on the floor - call it. CSU wins if call made. They got screwed.

after the dribble, he brought the ball firmly against his body - that’s possession! then he took 3 huge steps to the hoop before the shot. It was so obvious a travel in real time, no replay needed.

It's the way the way the game is called nowadays (for the entire game, not just the last minute) -- otherwise players like Derik Queen wouldn't do it. He and many players do that move several times a game, and I cringe every time I see it. I prefer that the real rules of basketball (traveling, carrying, etc.) be enforced, but that ship sailed in about 1990.

Basically, players are allowed to take three or four steps now, so long as they are moving toward the basket. Anytime you hear an announcer shouting "Eurostep!" you can be assured that he took more than two steps. And there's all that "gather" and "possess" doubletalk that's used to justify this one. It's why, as I said earlier, it isn't useful to compare today's players with players from the past, because they are playing a different game.

I never argue referee calls in plays I see, but I understand why this one wasn't called, and didn't expect it to be...

No gather “half step” in college basketball. It’s not a thing. His right foot was his pivot and he wound up picking it up and putting it back down which is a violation.
technically you are correct but no one told the refs. I said it was a travel while watching it live but it doesn't seem to matter if officials are coming on TV and saying its not.

I'm not going to comment further, because it makes it appear that I approve of allowing that play to stand (with the presumption being that it's because I'm a Maryland guy), even though I don't like it...
