OT: US @ Costa Rica - World Cup Qualifying

Yes intently watching.

Lazy defending and Klins still calls up favorites. You can figure out who.

Worst I've seen us play in awhile. I can't even count how many unforced giveaways we've giftwrapped for them. Really thought we were moving in the right direction in the 2nd half against Mexico, which we dominated, even though Mexico won at the end.

And 10 seconds later, another giveaway and poor marking in the box result in a 2nd goal for Costa Rica. Bad.

Get out of here Klins. Honestly he needs to go during the Hex.

Color guy not exactly being soft with the criticism of Klinsmann.

This is one of those games where JK's tenure might be over.

Also, the commentator sounds like a villain from a Die Hard movie.

Just an awful performance tonight, something that shouldn't be happening this far into JK's tenure. We may not qualify, which is unimaginable.

I turned it off. Klinsmann needs to move along. Team is going backwards at the wrong time.

Respected soccer journalists Like Grant Wahl and Stephen Goff are saying Bruce Arena's name is being mentioned as possible new coach from their sources...not a huge fan but could be worse though...I would rather see Tab Ramos, Claudio Reyna, Jason Kreis to name a few.... think it's definitely the right time for an American coach again though...

Klins teams are so frustrating. At times they look like world beaters at others they look like they could lose to Andorra.

That was awful. Just awful. They basically gave up after the 2nd goal. 2 things:

- Bradley isn't Bradley anymore
- Dempsey's injury has completely screwed this team up

...but BOTH of these have been turned into bigger issues, IMHO, because the talented youth in the program hasn't been groomed properly to take over these 2 slots, transitionally, in a smooth way that allows for the team to move forward.

Didn't see the game last night, but it never felt like the players were on the same page under Klinsmann. Things always seemed harder than they needed to be.

He keeps changing the lineup....little consistency in the back 4 hurts and is magnified in the hex....

Anybody else watching this crap? Bradley is a mess. This goes all the way back to Brazil 2014.

Something is definitely wrong with Bradley.
And Brooks, Gonzalez, and Chandler are awful.
What a month. I had to listen to my Peruvian and Ecuadorian friends first laugh at my Rutgers football team, then my presidential election, and now they can't stop laughing at my soccer team.
As one said: "300 million people in this country and THAT'S the best you have ?"

This 100%. The guy tinkers all the time. He also rarely plays guys in the position they play for their clubs.

It's the only time I root against the country where I was born but my entire family is from Costa Rica and they are such an underdog with just 4.5 million people in the country and still they find a way to compete. Just about every summer I spent it playing soccer in Costa Rica loving life it is so safe even today. Before I bought a house here I bought when in Heredia Costa Rica and I highly recommend it to all of you guys to visit. One of the best times in my life was being 19 a corporal in the USMC and spending three weeks vacation in Costa Rica even with virtually no money Inhad a blast as you all know the military does not pay lol. The Ticos are looking good and I. Gonna go watch them in Mexico City against Mexico it should be fun. The US will still make the World Cup IMO probably 4th place and go to the playoff. Trinidad is not competitive and Honduras is beatable.

Many of us have "entire families" from other countries but we root for the nation where we were born: THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. If the USA were to play Greece (who appear to be "back" after a miserable run in the most recent Euro qualifying stage...) in the WC there's ZERO question where my allegiances lie while "rooting."

Yeah ok. oh yea Costa Rica beat Greece in the last World Cup.

I was a big fan of Klinsman as a player, but he has done a piss poor job as the US team coach. He deserves to be fired and I would definitely say that after 5 years on the job the US team is in a worse position now then when he inherited it.

Here come random thoughts:

Klinsman makes no sense. And this is coming from a guy who thought he managed the 2 year run-up to the last WC FLAWLESSLY as well as the WC itself sans Wondo.

I thought we were done with Chandler. He has never performed at the national team level. Meanwhile he hands a re-call to another guy, Sacha, who performs extremely well in two appearances and he sits. I hope that is Chandlers last appearance.

I'm sick and tired of a 4 man backline that includes 3 and sometimes 4 center backs!

Really missed Bedoya. Piss poor work rate from Chandler and Johnson.

More athleticism is needed in the midfield. I cannot stress this enough.

I have so much more to say but Ill restrain from additional randomness.

I'd like to hear more additional randomness.

The good news is that both Chandler and Jones won't be playing in the next game in March due to yellow card accumulation. Chandler was so out of position it was laughable. Why the hell was Yedin not in there? Bradley and Jones can't play together anyway.
The worst thing though, is the lack of belief in the players. They looked lost.

Not-for-nothing but Altidore, as well, has been almost useless since coming back from injury. He simply CAN NOT get a good 1st touch on almost any ball.

The strange thing is that Altidore was on fire for Toronto prior to these 2 qualifiers. But you are correct....his 1st touch was completely lacking in these 2 games.

Agree - except for the US goal against Mexico.

I am still unclear the system Klinsmann is trying to run. Bradley is my favorite player and under the right conditions I think is world class. But he isn't some maestro that can make magic happen every time he touches the ball. Pairing Bradley and Jones in the midfield with the goal of having them play and win 1v1 is insane.

I wish Klinsmann found a better way to get Altidore and Johansson on the field together. They have experience working off one another and scored tons in the Netherlands.

Regardless - it was apparent o Tuesday that the coach has lost this team. Time for him to go.

Who should his replacement be? An American?

Rumor around that Bruce Arena has been offered the job.
