I’m going through this thread. Reading comp much or knee jerk reaction?Go read through the threads. He is getting KILLED. Probably 99% negative posts on him
Lol stop. Your post i originally responded to never said nor implied this thread only. He's getting bashed everywhere and you know it, but your knee jerk robotic response is the same no matter what is actually being said. The obsession is so over the top at this point it's strangeI’m going through this thread. Reading comp much or knee jerk reaction?
Think twice before you insult fans and stick to the argument.
Yup he wouldn’t be in any other B1G rotation. Can’t shoot, can’t pass, bad decision maker. His legs move quickly so it looks like he’s a good defender, but he’s small and gets abused a lot.I’ll destroy Davis- the last 2 games at home he’s been the primary reason for our slow starts on offense. Killed us going 0-3 and 1 turnover in 4 minutes vs Wisconsin
Tonight again turnovers early, and played 8 straight minutes, in fact, inexplicably he was the last starter taken out, even after being abused by Smith, all while not scoring or having an assist
Mind boggling that the staff thinks he brings any starter minute value. Davis wouldn’t Even be rostered on most big ten teams
He’s checked out.Seriously wonder if we win another game. If Harper isn’t hurt or sick, then he quit..and if he is hurt or sick, why is he playing.? He’s not helping. Just standing around.
This was fun for them, the easiest game all season for sure.Did anyone else get the sense Purdue barely had to try? When Painter called the timeout when we cut it to 5, my expectation was they'd step on our throats and run away with it.
Specifically tonight and the Wisconsin games , you look up and it is 6 turnovers in first 5 minutes and then tonight 12 turnovers to Purdue’s 3 . You come out of the gate turning the ball over and not even getting a shot at the rim. Hard to win that way. Then have to dig out of a 8-10 point hole. Wisconsin got to 16at 33-17 before we fought back. We have had good games with 4 turnovers or definitely under 10. Our basketball IQ has disappeared and simple basketball plays are not being made.1. Not much to say here other than this team is an absolute mess. Purdue (Braden Smith specifically) ran circles around us, and looked like an NBA team playing a junior high school team.
2. Smith & Co. ran pick and roll all night and murdered us. I’ve never seen so many beautiful pocket bounce passes in a single game in my life.
3. The season is officially over. There’s no coming back from 8-8 (1-4), especially with how the team has regressed over the course of the year.
4. Hayes, Derkack, and Martini (who DNP for good reasons) are all portal whiffs. Acuff is showing life as he gets back to full health.
5. Matt Painter absolutely SCHOOLED Steve Pikiell tonight, both in roster construction and in running offense.
6. This has to be the most disappointing season I can remember.
Good post. One of the problems of course is the other guys on the court besides Dylan Bailey and Somerville. When Hayes who is awful on d and really isn’t a big ten caliber player bricks every shot (ditto for martini) you’re left with decent athletes that are terrible offensive players who do not need to be accounted for and thus things get gummed up.Specifically tonight and the Wisconsin games , you look up and it is 6 turnovers in first 5 minutes and then tonight 12 turnovers to Purdue’s 3 . Watching Wisconsin and Purdue , 2 good offenses that run a lot more screens and pin downs , yes, but they also run simple pick and roll offense. Smith had like 13-14 assists on simple pick and roll on one side of the court. Wisconsin did the same but ran pick and pop and got 5 threes out of their bigs.
Common denominator their point guards Smith last night , Blackwell on Monday night had the ball in their hands and orchestrated the action. They did not use their point guard as a decoy but as a maestro. We cannot run pick and role with Ogbole who cannot catch a bounce pass but we can run it with Somerville and we can certainly run it with ACE where we can run pick and pop. The offense has suffered but failed to play simple basketball to take advantage of the advantage we have . Yes , Dylan has been ill and it has hurt us badly but to fix this offense that scored 50 points last night , we have to stop the early turnovers and we have to play with Dylan running the show and running pick and roll with Somerville and with ACE. Keeping ACE in the corner wasting away on any set is ludicrous . That will lead to easier scores and allow momentum to build along with confidence. Teams are doubling Dylan when he tries to drive and gets by his man and he is met with another defender so his drives all the way to the hole are more difficult. Things have to be made easier and for the life of me , watching other teams play simple fundamental basketball and have success and we have Dylan , ACE and Lathan and can do the same. We are not getting any consistency out of the rest of the supporting cast with only Acuff and Grant showing a pulse. We have to put the ball in Dylan’s hands and run simple fundamental basketball.
Yes that is problem and the biggest one we didn’t account for this year that PJ and to a similar extent Acuff are absolutely terrible defenders and get blown by so easily. Then again the so called defensive players , Jeremiah , Jordan and JMike have been 1 level above atrocious this year. So there is no fixing the defense this year and just have to pray it gets a little better but you can fix the offense and actually put pressure on the opposition to stop you which is what Wisconsin and Purdue did these last 2 games.Good post. The point being is he most certainly was a B1G defender, something we truly lack.G-RUnit,
Simpson is not a B1G player. He is shooting 37% in the A10 as the 4th option. Excellent foul shooter and very good defender. Can't finish when he drives and is terrible in the midrange.
Nobody was clamoring for Davis to stay. I think most were likely ok if both had left. Davis is worse than Simpson. I think everyone knows that.
Would our players improve with a real offense? I think he'd have them playing smarter and possibly be able to sneak them into the tourney. The more I watch our supporting cast struggle, the more I think there is no coach that could get this team to the tourney this year.Agree except for the “if Painter coaches” part. Purdue recruits an entirely different type of player: they all pass, shoot well, find open players and make each other better. Basketball Fundamentals.
Pike recruits athletes and length. Our guys have different skills and wouldn’t be capable of the Purdue offense. Fundamentals and team play not a roster construction consideration.
We have always been an iso ‘make a play’ offense because the players don’t have the other abilities.
So no, Painter wouldn’t change the skills our players have.
A vintage C. Vivian Stringer team would at least guard people.Vintage C. Vivian Stringer might kick this team out of the locker room until things improve.
This, compounded by their inability to play team offense, Bailey included. Not their skill set, which is why we play iso, which better fits all of them.Unit....our problem is we have too many Simpsons still on the team....all are different but they share one characteristic....they can't shoot and can't finish at the rim in conference play
I guess that is actually 2
