RAPID REACTION - Columbia

Thought the positive "team ball" tone for the evening was established before the 1st media timeout

RU goes up 10, crisp passing and movement on both ends. Ogbole has become much smoother playing D with his feet.

in 14 minutes he had 5 boards and was a presence uderneath on both ends. he also has a nice FT stroke. I was unaware until Austin Johnson mentioned it tonight that he was a football ( soccer) player before starting hoops at 18, which may explain why he still has stone hands.

He is going to be needed once conference play starts, for RU to be successful

You should google his story. It’s something else.

We all know what JaMike is and his limitations. The fact that he actually starts and is now closing games out is a really bad sign.
Not sure why exactly it’s a bad sign and who would you rather be on the floor? Granted it’s only one game, but I can’t think of anyone else who earned the spot at this point?

1. Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey doing Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey things. Triple-double for Dylan with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists. His three 3s in the second half were the key to Rutgers holding off a pesky Columbia team and building on the lead. Ace Bailey's mid-range twos -- he hit about 6 of those shots in a row -- in the first half gave us a solid lead and helped us navigate the zone defense, and he ended up leading the team with 24 points on 11-18 shooting. He was unguardable and his mid-range shot was ON.

2. Dylan's triple-double was the first one since Roy Hinson in 1983. Wow.

3. JMike played his best game as a Scarlet Knight, with 11 points (on 4-8 shooting, including a surprising 2-4 from deep), 7 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, and 0 (ZERO) turnovers. He also played pesky defense, getting a number of deflections in addition to the steals.

4. Rutgers (primarily JWill) did a solid job containing Geronimo Rubio-De La Rosa, limiting him to 17 points on an inefficient 7-16 (3-11) from the field.

5. Rutgers had 26 assists on 36 FGs, and 19 of those assists came from Dylan (12) and JMike (7), against just 1 TO.

6. Solid metrics tonight. Rutgers scored 91 points on 80 possessions, for 1.1375 points per possession. On defense, Rutgers only gave up 64 points on 73 possessions, for .8767 points per possession. This should help our KenPom and Bart rankings, and ultimately our NET ranking.

7. On the negative side, other than Sommerville, who provided some inside scoring off the bench (11 points, 5 rebounds), the rest of the bench had a dreadful night shooting. Martini, Hayes, Derkack, and Acuff combined to shoot 4-19, and two of those makes were meaningless late threes by Acuff when the game was already decided and Columbia had already emptied its bench. Hayes and Martini combined to go 1-7 from 3-pt range, and most of those 7 shots were good looks. They MUST hit a higher percentage of those shots going forward. M-U-S-T.

8. IN EDIT - I should mention that I thought Rutgers did a pretty good job defending Columbia's half-court sets. There were very few easy backdoor baskets, despite Columbia running high post picks and options.
#7 Let’s hope the three amigos who didn’t shoot well can turn that around because we’re going to need them to knock down threes against B1G opponents starting against IU.

It’s not a good thing when a player who consistently plays poorly is one of the better players.

A bunch of games the Yankees had their catcher wells bat cleanup.....Yankees did OK. So I guess I don't have a point.

Bobby Meachem made the EXACT same base running mistake with Ricky Henderson hitting and me on first.
We should have both scored standing up with Ricky on 2nd, and I got blamed 😊
Horrendous base running by Volpe and Bobby!

Did you know Bobby Meacham actually had 1 intentional walk in his career. The games was tied 4-4 in the 8th and Bob Stanley IBB Meacham to load the bases to face Rickey Henderson?????? He grounded in to a DP!

It’s the correct play if you’re confident your pitcher isn’t wild….setting up the force out at any base with less than two outs takes pressure off the infielders.

Bob Stanley and Ed Halicki both from Kearny High School.
Ed threw a no hitter in the big leagues.
Both my brothers while at Montclair high faced him.
I faced Stanley in high school.
Charlie Puleo pitched for Bloomfield.

Sorry for off topic drivel men.
