Rutgers-USC: Looking at the Stats You Might Have Thought Rutgers Had Won

You’re wrong on so many levels! First you have to pull Ace and protect him from himself. Pike did not and he fouled out and missed the last 30 sec of regulation and all of the OT’s . Pike did it his way and was wrong .

Ace did NOT foul out with 3 min left your lost and clearly drinking way way way too much or just not smart. Ace fouling out when he could have been part of the last inbound and instead of Jwill he is shooting the free throws.

I just re watched the end of regulation Jwill after dribbling out the clock drove and took a horrible shot with 45.6 sec left on the game . Once again Dylan nor Ace(in the game) touched the ball.

Dylan is on the strong side elbows just outside the 3 point line . Ace STILL not fouled out is in the corner outside the 3 point line and dives to the basket on Jwill’s horrible drive. Your lost !!!
You are factually correct that ACE fouled out with 24 seconds left up 4 and up 2 after Yates made the 2 foul shots . But your opinion crucifying Pike when Dylan was being swarmed is weak. Jeremiah missed a bad layup with 48 seconds left that had he gotten it on the rim Lathan and ACE were underneath for the putback and instead it kicked out . No defense of 2 missed foul shots but blaming Pike is weaker still.
As I said , this is not the game to criticize Pike. The players just had to make a few plays , Jeremiah and JMike and they didn’t . Always blaming the coach is stale when you actually watch the games.

Dylan was unstoppable? Did you see the final play of regulation? Dylan stopped himself a few times. Shot like 2 for his last 8 and was 1-8 from 3, and added 5 TO's. Dylan played well, but once again, wasn't the best performing freshman on the floor.

Look at his numbers through end of regulation when yes he was unstoppable .
Has to touch the ball!

Led the team in points l, assists, off rebounds , total rebounds , and blocks .

I know I was factually correct and called it real time. Dylan and Ace not touching the ball with just over a minute to go up 4 is criminal. We score then there is no OT. In close games details matter and Pike consistently comes small.

Does Braden Smith touch the ball in that spot? It’s not hard and you can create excuse after excuse but that’s terrible coaching.

Ace 3rd foul in first half is awful coaching. A freshman who has battled foul trouble who you desperately need in the game for the second half has to sit. Pike knows he F- up because Ace didn’t start the second half.

I attend in person every gane or watch every game on the road. You obviously do not since you are not even sure who is in the game.

Pike runs inbounds for Jwill late twice why??? Our best foul shooters at that point are Dylan and Lathan. Coaching

It’s ok but the excuse list is to long.

Why didn't the ball go to Ace on that possession

Clueless players..acuff and jwill. Harper was denied ball. Just terrible execution by Acuff worsened by jwill....these are 4 year players

I'm not going back to look but when are you complaining he didnt touch the ball? He did get the ball at the end of regulation and took a terrible shot that he airballed. He couldn't get near the rim. He had the ball in the 2nd OT and he made the right play, finding a wide open team mate, so he had the ball then. When did he not touch the ball?

Edit, I see after you are talking about a minute earlier. A time that was irrelevant since we had a lead later than that. Why not just complain about any mediocre possession throughout.

Under a minute to go up 4 ! Ace or Dylan don’t touch it! Either one goes to the basket and gets fouled or at worst gets it in the rim. We score there game never goes to OT. Under 1 min in a 4 game all possessions are huge. Pike is not a good coach and terrible in big moments.

Please his Tournament wins! You can choose any one you want they are all bad!

Pike's got plenty of faults but one random possession isn't an actual sign of bad coaching. Didn't that possession end with a JWill shot at the rim, the one place he's very good?

This is not hard! If it’s Purdue does Braden touch the ball????

Neither of our 2 best players touched it and yes it ended with Jwill dribbling 20 secs off the clock and taking a double clutch off hand left handed semi hook. Horrific shot and why your stars have to have the ball to make great decisions.

We can also discuss Ace 3rd foul coaching!

We can also discuss 2 inbound plays to Jwill late why? Coaching

We can highlight multiple things Pike failed at in one game .

We can discuss being flat and ill prepared in the first half.

It was on Pike !

You are a Pike hater . We all get it. Things you draw out like Dylan and ACE having the last shot doesn’t always work out. Dylan being triple team and giving up the ball to Jeremiah was the correct play. A play Smith has made numerous times finding Loyer, Heide or Corvin for a three.

Regarding going to games I have been doing it since the late 80’s and my seats are the best in the house. The only point you make and it is limited , is that Pike has done a real bad job coaching this team this year. His not getting a rim protector , or bringing in defensive wings and bigs to compliment our Dylan and ACE was his failure. But your memory about Pike is just false and influenced by your hate. How was his coaching getting the team back in the game in the second half, switching defenses, using the press, zone , and man to get us the lead. His players had the opportunity to extend it to a 4 point game with 19 seconds and failed . Not always the coach, maybe the players do not have that high basketball IQ needed to be winners , or dive on the floor to get a tie up when we have the possession arrow . I know you cannot see it. Hate will win out for you.

Dylan being triple team and giving up the ball to Jeremiah was the correct play.
I disagree actually. It's the right play most of the time but when you only need one point Dylan would've actually been better off just forcing up the shot. JWill is a bad outside shooter. If Dylan just forces up the shot it's a "less efficient" shot in general but the number of points doesn't matter there.. you just need the ball to go in.

Flux you can disagree but it was the right play. And if Dylan forced up a bad shot that missed badly the stupid mindless crew on these boards , including some of the regulars , would be dissing him for selfishness. In fact , the spewing of hate of Dylan by 2 long time members of this board is rather disgusting .

Can you explain why you think it was the right play, given we only needed one point to win?

Williams is a quite poor outside shooter. Even wide open like that, he makes it, what 30%?

I would imagine Dylan’s contested but much closer attempt would go in more often.

I have been attending since the 90’s so tip of the hat to your long term commitment. Hate Pike? No!! Believe he is not a top 25 power 4 coach like he is being paid YES.

You talk about Smith and him giving it up to Loyer or Heide and making the right play. I agree Braden having the ball and making the right read. Exactly what Dylan did at the end of 1st overtime. Drove the ball, was triple teamed, and made the right play and got us a wide open look. What about the end of regulation with 1:04 to go??? Dylan nor Ace touch the ball and Jwill dribbles out the clock makes the wrong play and gets off a horrible left handed shot. Coach has to get them the ball he didn’t we lost. Close games the last 2 mins matter. Your example and what actually happened makes my point.

So building the team was a complete embarrassment (All on Pike)

Now the game. You talk about Pike getting us back into the game as an accomplishment. Great job for about 12-14 min in the second half no doubt. What about the first hall and getting down big? Do we just overlook that? Unfortunately for Pike and us he has to coach the last 2 mins and he screwed up. Simple

Even a 30% shooter when wide open at this level must make that shot. Wisconsin just hit 19 threes from almost their entire starting 5. Only saw the second half, but they hit wide open threes even the 30-35% shooters. Jeremiah is not a sacred freshman. He hit the same shot when Dylan gave him the ball when we took the lead late against Texas A&M 77-76. We do not have great 3 point shooters and those were either on the bench or covered. But when you are open you have to hit it.

Just 2 games that had random things happen . Michigan game Burnett’s shot goes down and we lose and this Jeremiah miss. If you reverse the last shots that is 2 more wins , a 3 game winning streak heading to Purdue.
You kill Pike and sometimes things are random and it is sports at the end of the day and things happen that Coach cannot make or miss the shot.

No excuse for the first half because we were not playing hard in the first half. It was noticeable and tangible how hard we played in the second half. Pike is the coach so he gets the blame.
Teams miss foul shots or one and one ‘s late and lose all the time. Pike and every coach whose guys missed foul shots are at fault. Get it !!!
Jeremiah played really hard in that second half and played well until he didn’t. For 19 minutes he was really impactful especially defensively. Then he badly missed the driving lefty layup with 47-48 seconds , that really should have been an easy layup off the glass and he missed the 1 and 1 with 19 seconds. Then of course in first OT missing the open 3. So yeah Jeremiah didn’t come thru. I know all Pike’s fault.

I'm not trying to kill Pike. Or Dylan, or JWill for that matter. In almost every other situation I would agree it is the right play as a 30% chance at 3 points is better than a 35% chance at 2. But in this specific situation, at the end of the game, the extra point doesn't matter and I would rather have Dylan's closer shot.

Hate? Yes! Impossible for anyone to believe that your non-stop, scorched-earth criticism of Pikes is based on his being overpaid relative to his ability. Attending since the 90’s but joined the board in 2023? Troll or private agenda.

Because I don’t make excuses for our head coach and hold him accountable I hate him? If Pike was the AD he would fire himself after this year.

You probably made excuses for Eddie Jordan until he was gone and now complain about him. 😂

The facts are what they are.

He’s not a power 4 coach and it’s time to move on.

Ok so blew the first half! Coached well for 15 min of second half and blew the end of game and OT. You want to applaud him for his 2nd half ??? You do realize the rest of the game was bad and we lost???

Teams do miss foul shots and layups and you’re right. The coaches job is to put the ball in the best players hands to increase the odds that we get a great shot or make the layups and free throws. If you do not understand that then your really wasting those really good seats you have.
