RAPID REACTION — Illinois

uncalled for

all i know is currently rutgers at 12-11 and 6-11 in Q1/2/3 isnt even on my consideration list TODAY

win the next 2 and they will be and strongly in the mix
It would take more than the next 2 to be in the mix, I think the MD game is a must because if we lose that game then we would have to beat Purdue which I don't think is happening.

Okay but this would be the same situation, but inversed, where it would be clear that an injury impacted the team and they are a different team with a healthy Harper.

Committee Chairman Craig Reynolds full answer to Steve Torre and Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo on Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio when asked what went into leaving Rutgers out of the field and putting other bubble teams like Nevada in:

“These are very difficult situations. It’s challenging because it’s like splitting hairs. Both teams had good years — not great years, but good years. But I will say this: when you look at Rutgers, for example, their non-conference schedule — in particular, their non-conference wins — the committee looked hard at that. They were trying to find something they could really grab to. In the non-conference as it relates to having success in that portion of the schedule, it was lacking. And they certainly had some wins over conference teams, I don’t want to take that away from them. However, when you get to February 7, the team suffered a setback with an injury to a key member of the team and they just didn’t look the same the rest of the year. We had several games we could observe them from February 7 on and they had a difficult time. So we certainly look at the full body of work, but when you look at the non-conference schedule and lack of quality wins (in it), and how they looked down the stretch, the combination of the two were the reason why they were left out by the committee.”
You can’t separate the “how they looked down the stretch” from Mag’s injury playing a big part in that (“they just didn’t look the same the rest of the year”).

I think what bac is saying is that it wasn’t so much the bad “stretch run” that kept us out in 2023 but rather the fact that we lost a lot of games in February after Mag went down.

Does this mean they will put us in the tournament if (1) we have enough wins on the résumé based on a hot February stretch run; and (2) ACE AND DYLAN ARE BOTH HEALTHY? (the reverse situation from 2023).

Who knows, but I hope we’re in that position to find out.

Iowa is next...if rutgers beat Maryland and Iowa at 14-11 they would be currently back on the bubble. I am not addressing what happens after and if they stay there but at 14-11 they will be there

Okay but they DID consider how the team finished. This would be the same situation, but inversed, where it would be clear that an injury impacted the team and they are a different team with a healthy Harper and Grant being in the lineup.

they go together. RU looked poor without Mag. They considered an injury that was detrimental to the team...Rutgers played so poorly that it did not match their profile from pre injury and also the losses had weighed down the overall profile where RU went from a pretty safe bet to on the bubble. Perhaps if they didnt lose at Minnesota they still would have went

Same token, they conveniently ignored that we started playing better. Supposed to be full body of work and other schools not punished as much by injuries.

Lost to Michigan at home during season, subsequently beat them end of season. Showed we could win. Appears Committee making up own excuses and knew the backlash of rejecting RU won’t hurt them.
B1G has always had Rutgers back…lol… Baseball NCAA tourney?

Hopefully this year if we can somehow make it close, CBS wants Ace and Dylan in. RU v UConn or St. John’s would make for juicy story and ratings.

Not an attack at all….i just think until you look at the bubble for 2025 you are just using past bubbles in thinkingvwhat this year’s bubbles. 18-13 could be a 50/50 based on what we know now if the bubble is really weak this year. With the lack of parity this year in major confernces that might be the case.

Right it would depend on how/if they look at the team that would be in the tournament and how it differs from other parts of the season.
  1. Do they only consider the 3 games Harper missed completely where they went 1-2 or is that not enough?
  2. Do they also consider the 3 other games where he was severely compromised and went a combined 1-5?
  3. Do they factor in that when Grant is starting and Harper is fully healthy they're currently 3-0 (All Quad 1) and with the following hypothetical metrics if they finish 18-13:
    1. Overall: 9-2; Quad 1: 5-2; Quad 2: 3-0; Quad 3: 1-0
I'll admit that 3 would be completely unprecedented but this is a team that brought in 9 new contributors and it would be expected that finding the right lineup would take some time. They thought 8 games without Mag was enough to evaluate the team that would be in the tournament and that would be 11 games.

My worry is despite at being a 18 team league they may be afraid of 12 teams getting bids even if deserving.

I know, they don’t look at conference affiliation … like heck they don’t.

Your #1 and # 6 was the key to the win. Dylan Harper , early season Dylan , one of the best players in the country Dylan was on full display .
Hitting 28-34 or 82% was the other main reason we win by 9 and we needed them.

One little criticism was I thought ACE did not have a good full game. He was tremendous early getting to the foul line area and hitting 2 jumpers , where he should have gotten in the Michigan game. Great start.
He had a great ending picking up 6 rebounds. Needed everyone of them.

However , he was stuck at 16 points forever and then just decided he wasn’t going to jump for rebounds or go after loose balls not that far from him. His defense was also bad during that stretch and opportunities for blocked shots were instead to my suprise , turned into staying down and not contesting anything. I do not know if he got tired but he literally let Illinois catch up to us on the boards and then go past us. He allowed second chance rebounds with a smaller guy getting the rebounds on 2-3 occasions. Very weird seeing that from ACE as he usually plays with a high IQ and a high motor. Then suddenly with 4-5 minutes left in the game he decided to jump and get rebounds again, which were crucial.

Other than that small criticism , having Dylan and ACE together was great for the win , along with contributions from the supporting cast. The defense is definitely getter better or should I say definitely better this game. The transition offense also produced 24 points and it was a beautiful sight to see as we got back to playing offense like in Vegas . This team unlike past years really thrives and can score in transition against anyone in the country. Pike doesn’t push it because he is worried about our transition defense but that has improved. If we can hit the defensive glass like we did for a good part of the game , we can get those 20 transition points we need and they cannot double Dylan or ACE.

Really a great tough wonderful game and we deserved the win. Stacking wins is the next goal.
Big pass to Ace’s effort in spots. String bean slim Ace having to exert big time energy in paint to rebound a monster rebounding team like ILL and then hustle down the court to help with scoring effort. RU doesn’t win without Ace’s rebounding effort towards end of game.

GO RU

Maryland game is a huge opportunity! A win there could greatly increase chances of a late tournament run. If needing a road split of Q1s & avoid slip-ups at home, getting one out of the way, is a big plus. Don’t want to go into Purdue with a must win there. (Although we pulled it off there in 2020)
Iowa is a pesky “system” team that always gives Rutgers trouble..
So yes, keep focus on the next 2, and win, then yes, definitely in the bubble conversation

I think a shout out to Davis is warranted for his rebounding effort. He’s normally not a good rebounding guard and we needed all 4 of those. He tied up a few others that resulted in side out Illinois not showing up in the stats.
Always liked him, though he is playing under better control now & very well. Can't see Williams playing ahead of him.

Keep loving yourself -- ever read what you say --like your rants during a game-- yeah ,you blow with the wind. And your guesses are as good or bad as anyone. So attacking another guy's guesses is so presumptuous.
You can disagree on game and player takes, but bac obviously knows more than almost every human being on earth when it comes to bracketology

Bac was literally ranked 3rd in Bracket Matrix after last year’s NCAA tournament selections.

Not exactly sure why you have a bee in your bonnet about bac.
Almost "every human being on earth"??? Why? He loved Julie ,he loves to blame/attack players and coaches, he goes in reverse after wins or loses- speaks out of both sides of his mouth , he presumes RU is always in the wrong he's a hypocrite -- and him and his brother threatened to beat me up at a game and if you never cared to notice thinks he's cute about attacking one's age. You want more, he'll never omit that he's wrong cause he considers himself an expert and better than most . You asked and I could go on and on without even discussing politics. But most importantly I don't take shyt from people.
