My annual trek to NYC with a bunch of friends we will be riding the 45 miles through all 5 boros again in Sunday. One of the best Cycling events in the world. 35k riders starting in lower Manhattan and ending crossing the Verrazano Bridge into Stan Island. My 24th year. I know some of you ride. When you getting to town and where you drinking Saturday? We will be on Stone Street to watch the Derby.

I have a Trek 5000. The first "new generation" of carbon fiber bikes. Same make up as the US Postal Team used during Lance Tour wins. I keep changing the components but no reason to get rid of the frame even though it's many years old. Lightest frame still out there for amateurs.
I'm not a bike geek but do ride a lot of miles but never wear spandex, bike clip shoes, or bicycle jerseys. Just ride for fun

IMO this is much worse than wearing pajama pants in public.

A crime I tell ya'

MrsScrew and I did it about ten years ago. Was fun but I did NOT like riding over the Verrazano.
Riding over the Verrazano is half torture, half the best part of the ride. One mile up is not easy, one mile down approaching 40 mph is frigging awesome!

A felony if it's a unitard with nipple exposure. This guy gets 15 years in my court

Haha, sorry for the distasteful hijack. On the plus side, when you google "bicycle bibs", there are actually a lot of topless women (hands over breasts).

Have fun, sounds like a great way to kickoff May!

I'll be riding for the fourth year now! This year I live right across the river so I guess I'll be in town already.

Debating riding on my trek road bike from the 70s with downtube shifters... or on my ~34 lb full suspension mountain bike.

Which one will be more fun?

My fav route in all of NJ is just cycling around Rutgers campus when I visit.....effortless fun,,,,,,,,I cycled everywhere when I was a student in the 80s......

anyone have a fav route in NYC or NJ ?

Participated in the 5 Boro Bike Tour each year from 1994-1996 when I was stationed on Governor's Island. Great ride! Agree that the VZ Bridge toward the end is an ass kicker.

Every year we do our own "Bike NY" on the Saturday before. We try to keep it to 25/30 miles. All of our "rest stops" are bars that favor craft beers. Each year we try a different route and try to take in as much as we can. Last year was one of the best. Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and working our way over to Prospect Park. Our first pit stop was the Double Windsor (highly recommend). Prospect Park is great. This year we take in the famous McSorely's Old Ale House than across the Brooklyn Bridge head north to Roosevelt Island and take the Tram (for the very first time) back into Manhattan. Making my first trip to the Original Brother Jimmy's BBQ than back into the Wall Street area.

If you are looking for a couple of "must" rides in NYC, Central Park and the GW Bridge are at the top of the list.

You know what the roads are like in NYC, my recommendation would be the mountain bike. I rode the Tour 4 times on a mountain bike, had a great time in the rain one year hitting all of the puddles.

In 2007 toc elebrate losing 105lbs(got down to 185lbs) I cycled around the entire Manhattan "shore" which was mostly paved dedicated bike path. The highlight was cycling over the Brooklyn Bridge. I will NEVER forget that !

All sounds great ! I will never forget crossing the Brooklyn Bridge then back over the Manhattan Bridge...LOVE the bridges !

ROOSEVELT ISLAND is the new home of Cornells NYC campus,,,,,,it will me a MUST RIDE for me for sure!

he doesn't like bridges when he's in a car. Riding over the 7 bridges that day was torture for him. I thought it was great and was actually upset we weren't riding on the top level of the Verrazano. Have fun!

I used to ride when I lived in Hoboken, but stopped because there were too many people riding, and the bike traffic was continually stopping. I think a lot of that was just from people jumping in.

Has the flow been better lately?

They have now truly stagered starts and all has been great the past few year. My group leaves at first light. We are over the Verrazano by 11ish. They had a big problem because of construction a few years back but the only "slow" points now are thru Central Park. After that ride at your own pace
