OK, I compiled this from a few different posts on a RT thread, so the formatting is inconsistent, but basically it is our 2 deep, and the number of P5 offers they had:

Offense:

Patton (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/130941) - 8
Harris (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/157225) - 5
Tsimis (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/129315) - 1
Cole (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/155876) - 0
Miller (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/107129) - 7
Nelson (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/110375) - 4
Muller (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/114215) - 11
Denman (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/105880) - 16
Arcidiacono (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/132060) - 1
Laviano (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/115298) - 1
Martin (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/145149) – 9

Backups:

QB: Gio Rescigno - 0 offers
RB: Justin Goodwin - 0
TE: Matt Flanagan – Walk-on
WR: John Tsimis - 1
WR: Vance Matthews - Walk-on
WR: Carlton Agudosi – 0? Thought he had some.
LT: Zack Heeman- 0
LG: Zach Venesky - 0
C: Jonah Jackson – 0
RG: Marcus Applefield - 10
RT: Kamaal Seymour – 3

DEFENSE (Name - # offers)
DE: Darnell Davis – 0 / Jimmy Hogan 1 OR Ron’Dell Carter - 1
NT: Sebastian Joseph – 0 / Kevin Wilkins - 2
DT: Darius Hamilton - 23 / Jon Bateky - 3
DE: Julian Pinnix-Odrick – 7 /Myles Nash - 7
WLB: Trevor Morris - 0 / Eric Margolis - 0
MLB: Deonte Roberts - 1 / Kevin Marquez – 0 (Walk-on)
SLB: Tyreek Maddox-Williams – 0 / Ronnie James - 3
CB: Isaiah Wharton - 2 / Ross Douglas (grd transfer, not sure)
FS: Kiy Hester – 18 (transfer) / K.J. Gray - 2
SS: Anthony Cioffi -0 / Lawrence Stevens – 1
CB: Blessuan Austin - 0 / Damon Hayes - 2

So, the starting O doesn't look too bad offer wise, until you realize the backups are... well, not highly recruited kids. So even if our 3/4* are not performing at that level, they are still out there because they are being pushed by walk-ons or kids that were very lightly recruited. It means, even our 3* misses are still playing because we have nothing else.

Ideally your starters and backups would be recruits at the same level, just one being more experienced, or simply worked out to be better, than the other.

Now? Basically we have a team full of kids starting because we have no other option.

Great post. Very sad. No depth.

Great post.

This is why I keep repeating that we must recruit and build depth and that there are no magical shortcuts. They must recruit well consistently, year in and year out.

I think our players are getting great strength and conditioning now, and great positional coaching. But it takes way more than a single off-season to catch up to the elite Big Ten teams, many of whom have had that kind of off-season training in place for decades.

And "coaching" them up as well.
Well, actually, that's the thing. He might have identified some diamonds in the rough and with another year of better coaching, they may shine some. I won't give up hope on our existing student-athletes. But it never was gonna happen in just one off-season.

I said it months ago and took heat for it. Except for a few kids, you have a MAC level roster. It's exactly why you get MAC results on Saturdays (no flame).

That post above with Ash's kids is interesting. Going to take a few years to get your talent where it needs to be.

Heard that BS so many times by idiots on this board over the last 3.years.
And the " well Michigan St builds their team with hidden gems ". BS
How's Michigan State doing so far this year?...something isn't right at MSU .... if we had their talent now we would be at least 3-3...Iowa was the game we shoulda and coulda won with a QB.

And out of the 11 players with 5 or more power 5 offers, we lose 5 of them after this season due to graduation. I know we have some talented freshmen with Multiple offers coming in, but they are just that, freshmen. So this makes it even more obvious that next year could be another bad year record wise (hopefully with improvement in our play though since it will be the second season with the new schemes), and 2018 will hopefully be where we start to see a potential bowl season and 2019 a season with the potential for 8-9 wins

Speaking from recent experience, skill players can make the transition rather quickly. On defense, your DBs are probably the most likely to be able to contribute immediately. Expecting a lot from either lines is asking a lot because their bodies simply haven't matured yet.

For reference, here are Ash's current verbals by P5 offers:

Fogg 19
Clark 17
Melton 15
Tverdov 9
Watts 7
Lewis 5
Fatukasi 5
Bowles 4
Lopez 4
Taylor 4
Lovett 3
Barrow 2
Wormley 2
Jones 2
Jones 1
Vretman 1
Beaty 1
Duggan 1
Onyechi 1
Hayek 1

This list of offers is still not where it needs to be, but it's headed in the right direction. But keeping a developing kids will also be very important. Another killers for Flood's classes was losing so many kids to attrition or suspension.

You speak the truth. One recruiting class, I want to say 2015, RU had one recruit with a PSU offer and PSU had like 18 recruits with an RU offer. Just unacceptable stuff.

It's good to see a level-headed discussion of the team and its prospects. It makes it much easier to follow and root for them when you don't have goofy beliefs about isolated players and scheme changes that will make vast improvements. This is the team we have, and it ain't changing, and depth chart shifts aren't making appreciable differences. Accept it or be prepared to agitate yourself through the end of this year and likely next year.

We simply have young players on the field that are not physically nor mentally ready to play B1G football, yet.

All of the attrition over the past few years have made a huge impact.
Players that would be juniors and seniors and on the field are now out of the program or were expelled.

Exactly my point.
Forget the crap about building a team with under the radar recruits.
That BS was spewed on this Board because Flood could not recruit.

I don't think the overall problem is youth. For the most part, the players that could turn things back around are not on the roster right now.

But my only injection is the OL which was very highly recruited are all for the most part seniors. That along with the starting DL were all top notch recruits.....I was expecting better play out of these kids which would hopefully translate into a good transition year. this program took a precipitous drop in 2years....for a number of reasons

Here's the thing with highly recruited players, even they work out at about a 40-50% rate. So if we had 5 good OL recruits and 2-3 of them worked out to be pretty good (one just graduated), that still leaves you with pretty big holes on the line.

This. Which only further underscores the important of recruiting. The more talent you bring in, the better chance it blossoms at this level.

Thank you for doing what I was going to do tonight. What I've been saying for a while now: the lack of quality DEPTH on this roster is stunning. Yes, we have SOME quality starters, with some quality offers, but it ends there.

The fact that our D starts - STARTS - 6 guys with NO OTHER P5 OFFERS is sad, however, not surprising. Maybe some here will FINALLY start believing what some of us have been preaching for, well, 3 years now.

But but but...Flood was great at identifying diamonds in the rough!

"he's another hidden gem that Flood has landed before anyone else"...

"he simply hasn't submitted ALL of his offers to the sites..."
