If you watched the UNT game it was clear that their zone defense was the only thing that kept them in the game on Wed night. You therefore had to figure that if Hartford also played zone against us that we would have to earn everything on the offensive end. Hopefully we have some practice time to prepare to face zone defenses on a regular basis, as until we prove that it does not give us trouble we will see it consistently. I'm very glad this thread is being created off of a win, but it's clear that this has to be Pike's big coaching focus moving forward.

I actually thought that we attacked the zone pretty well in both games

On Wed...thought we just missed shots but, as a whole; on a 1/10 scale...our look quantity was about a 7

Today....we attacked it but we had some slopyness and mistiming that led led to a few too many turnovers...look quality was a 6/6.5 but effenicy hurt by turnovers

Today they worked the high low and we got plenty of open looks but just could not knock them down. I would have liked to see CJ take some shots from just inside the foul line he had plenty of opportunities today. He has a great touch from the foul line so those shots were even closer.

Against the zone, our best chance might be to cause fouls inside and make some FTs. Can't see us consistently hitting jumpers to force man to man. Won't be able to beat the good teams without better shooting from the guys that are capable.

It looked like Sa had some issues today on the high low pass. When these guys get use to playing with each other, I think you will see a lot more wide open layups and open 3's on those plays.

We had better get used to seeing zone. There's going to be plenty more coming. Getting a few more minutes out of Gettys will be crucial going forward. He's clearly our best fit passing and screening on the high post

I know everyone keep saying get use to seeing more zone, but I don't see that happening as much in the B1G. There might be times where you'll see zone, but for the most part B1G teams are man-to-man. Zone is more of a staple for Rutgers non-conference opponents and that's mostly due to the lack of height/size.

I was actually disappointed in the way we attacked the zone today, especially in the first half. UH was sagging off the free throw line and packing it in underneath the hoop, giving wide open looks from just below the FT line. But, RU just refused to take that 10-12 foot shot. At different times, Gettys, Sa and Thiam all had open looks from there and no one pulled the trigger. If they'd have knocked down even a couple of those, it would have opened up the low post.
