Our Offense

Watching a mediocre Stanford team beat a young, but talented UCLA team last night confirmed what I feared -- we are still a couple of years away. Pikiell needs one more strong class after this year's class. Until we have shooters and finishers we are stalled. Defense and rebounding have taken us as far as we can go.

Stalled? We are only halfway through year 2.

We're third in the nation in offensive rebounding'

I don't know if you are posting this as a positive thing showing how hard we play and how well we reound or a negative thing because the only reason we get so many offensive rebounds is because we miss so many shots. Actually, it is probably a little bit of both.

Not sure why so many on this board are carping. Oh, forgot--it is the nature of fans to carp and say, why could we not recruit better players when this staff took over, instead of guys like Candido Sa? After a decade marked by the disaster that was FHJ; the antics of Mike Rice that made us a laughing stock and provided great anti-RU recruiting and the sleepwalking under EJ?
So this year--Geo has emerged and looks like a player. Doucore needed to redshirt, but we could not let him. He shows promise, as does Eugene. So now, looking ahead to next year, we may actually have some depth:
Shaq Carter, Myles Johnson, Luke Nathan, Eugene, Thiam, Doucore as big guys.
Montez Mathis, Peter Kiss, Harper, Geo at guard. Maybe even Sanders, which would make a deep back court. If Sanders comes back, leaves one open spot. We don't know what happens to Mensah and Bullock. But the raw talent of the newcomers exceeds what the staff had been able to bring in before. At least three of these guys--maybe more--can play at this level, and set the stage for future recruiting. Not sure why people are unhappy in Year Two, when the coming upgrade in talent is patent. What, we won't make the NCAA's this year? Fire them all, and is Bob Knight still sentient?
