Four starters left tackle Keith Lumpkin, left guard Dorian Miller, center Derrick Nelson and right guard Chris Muller are listed on the injury report ahead of Saturday's noon game at Army.

Only right tackle J.J. Denman, whose struggles have been the most obvious along the line, received a clean bill of health.

Nelson and Miller are questionable after they were involved in a helmet-to-helmet collision in the final minute of the 31-14 loss to Nebraska.

"Not only are Derrick and Dorian questionable for the game, but they are also our first- and third-team centers," coach Kyle Flood said. "And Chris Muller is our second-team center, and so when all three of those guys are in the game, and something like this happens we have to make sure we are starting to train other people and we started that process (Sunday) night.

"We'll make a decision (Tuesday) when we see some of these guys as to who is the going to take the reps in practice. But putting the right guy at center is the first priority, and then we'll put the pieces together at guard and tackle.

Maybe this is how Rettig gets into the game. He's the next closest guy to knowing how a snap is executed. And he's spent the whole season bent over taking it up his you know what..so he knows THAT position too..

...I wonder where all those people who rolled their eyes anytime people here expressed concern about our seemingly horrendous injury rate are hiding out...

we have remained quite healthy this year. This is football kids get hurt the list is always long for every team. How many kids have actually missed games this year because of injury?

Every team has injuries, and plenty of teams have had it far worse than us this season on the injury front.

The 'excuses' faction just doesn't give up.

Vk, if we remained "quite healthy", then why have I been hearing about all of these 'injuries' affecting our performance this year (Carroo, Turay, James, etc)?

B1G lines are very physical. Last year, many Alabama and Oregon DL were being carted off the field in 4th quarter of OSU games. They just started dropping like flies To play 6 B1G games in a row is a real gauntlet. Its worse when team is way behind and defenders know passes are coming and can knock stuffing out of OL

Aren't these injuries a week premature? Usually they happen after a game of cut blocking from a service academy. Preemptive injuries to be fit for the Maryland game?

Well said by one of the board's remaining apologists. We get it. You think flood is a victim of circumstances and not his own ineptitude. You'd watch 5 more years of blowouts and make the same excuses every year.

He's feverishly searching the news to find a article one why Floods such a nice guy. He still has a crush.

Can't understand why anyone would bother with discussing our injury list or any other interesting topic related to RU football when they can start the 1,042nd thread bashing Flood.

Hate to say this but all losing teams that know the season is basically over have injuries....???? Remember the Shea years.

Strength and conditioning, just one of many areas that would drastically improve under a new coaching staff. All that rah rah looks good on TV but fact is our injury rate has increased ever since 2012.

Upper body injury....what ever that is...has skyrocketed under the post Schiano era

In other news, just found a photo from the ground-breaking ceremony of Rutgers Stadium:

Another position group I said, hundreds of times prior to being banned, was going to be a MAJOR issue, but....I was shot down by many, and bashed by some, because they believed all the hype of the "incredible depth" that had been built, by Flood, with all the under-recruited, underrated offensive lineman, he brought in here the last three years. Maybe people should have paid attention to Bobby D who was saying the same thing I was, over-and-over, but that wasn't enough either I guess.

I'm not going to name names, because I appreciate the efforts of every kid in this program, but thinking 2-star after 2-star kids - quite a few of whom had very few to NO P5 offers - are ALL somehow "hidden gems," or "under-the-radar," and that Flood was some kind of recruiting "savant" getting to these kids "early, nobody knows about them," is beyond absurd, and I hope everyone here remembers this next time around. Run a different O, different story (maybe), but NOT running a pro-set, in this division, and in this conference. What on Earth were some here thinking???

The big news in the offseason was all the records being set in the weight room, yet the OL is being rag dolled and tossed around like salad. MSU was the only game against a big-time DL where they played well.

no quickness, no meanness, out of position, backs whiffing on blocks, (putting in Goodman to be like a fullback in pass protection)..lousy zone blocking crap, .etc... just a complete lack of vision from the staff. I mean, look at a picture of our olinemen. Do they look anything like the average P5 unit?

Find me some nasty walk-ons with a chip on their collective shoulder...

The funny thing about that is OL may be the position we've recruited best over the past 4 years. Muller and Denman were top 250, 4* guys. Miller, Brodie, and Nelson were solid 3*, state ranked guys. Imagine what this will look like when all we have are those 6'7" 2* projects.

Actually, I've heard good things about Applefield and Cole. Cole in particular was fighting for a starting job in camp. Also some good words about Heeman...for next year.

Who is making injury excuses in this thread?Joe posted that people who said our injury rate is normal are hiding out.

Let's see it on the field against real B1G opposition. What these players are doing in practice clearly isn't translating into production in games. Neither is all this praise we hear. Presumably, these guys weren't good enough in the eyes of the coaches to start over guys who've been overmatched in most B1G games.

So if Miller and Nelson went helmet to helmet, but GS was coaching, they would not have been hurt?
Under GS they may have had better technique and not hit each other in the first place. Surely Flood hasn't proven he can teach fundamentals.
And if you think my initial post is about 2 individuals you may want to start from the beginning of the thread and read everything over again. If you still think it's just about Miller and Nelson than you may want to stop posting as you lack reading comprehension fundamentals.

How much time would GS spent teaching tackling techniques to offensive linemen? No one ever got hurt making a tackle under GS.

Of course it not just about Miller and Nelson, but the fact is that head injuries, which fall under "upper body" are treated more seriously than in the past. The players would have been labeled as "dinged" under GS.

Since this thread is about the offensive line, so far the same five have started every game this year.

No someone with a concussion would still have been listed as questionable even under Schiano.
And you can't explain away the total increase of injuries under Flood from just the concussion protocol.
The number of players that sit out practice, games and off season programs has skyrocketed under Flood.

Can't soak for others and what they think but we have remained very healthy this year. We have had the same 5 start every game. Who have we lost for the season do to injury? Again, how many guys have missed full games because of injuries? Now compare that to most other teams.

Really??? You are going to say that two players in the heat of a play are going to think "I have to tilt my head this way so I don't knock heads with my fellow player who is coming at me at a certain angle and I need to adjust my head 20 degrees to my left as coach taught me"

You lose all credibility with post like that.

Here we go again!! WHO CARES what we "hear" out of "camp"??? When will our posters learned that "camp" news generally doesn't mean much (ESPECIALLY under this regime...)??

Well, I care what we hear out of camp. It's nice to hear good things about some of the players that we haven't seen yet. Personally I'd like to hear a lot more of it.
