outside firm assisting in coach search

Not saying Hobbs said this, but I watched that interview and didn't hear him say that.

What optimism? Its been 24 hours since the coach was fired. I was not expecting a quick hire, were you?

WHY NOT ....RB SHOULD HAVE BEEN AHEAD OF THE CURVE...ESP THIS YR.....MOORMAN...EFF THE BIG NAMES..or shock them all and take Moglia...

I don't recall Barchi saying we are not using an outside firm to help. He named his team in the search. Just not the whole list.

On tv during the game I didn't hear anything but at halftime if he did an interview I don't know.

BTW I posted an article in the other thread about his whole hiring process with regards to Willard. I'll copy that here.

Saw this on premium and a good article on how he went about hiring Willard. Both his hires in Willard and Donovan were bad but here's the process for Willard.

Passed on McCaffery and Cooley and how is Mike Rice on that list after Gonzo. This was before Rice came to us but others here have said his reputation preceded him even at that time. Donahue was their 2nd choice after Willard, another coach who failed at BC.

From the article:

In addition to Willard and Mooney, the list would include Robert Morris’ Mike Rice, Vermont’s Mike Lonergan, Cornell’s Steve Donahue, Fairfield’s Ed Cooley and former Pirate star and Milwaukee Bucks assistant Adrian Griffin.

And, of course, Siena’s Fran McCaffery.

According to two people with knowledge of the search process, McCaffery didn’t present “the sincerity behind it that (Seton Hall) wanted.” The people requested anonymity so as to not publicly disparage McCaffery. McCaffery had been in Atlanta earlier that day, interviewing for the Iowa job.

Even though Seton Hall came away from the interview enjoying the Siena coach, something was off.

As one person put it: “He was the safe choice.”

The last AD search is what I'm referring to. Why bother paying the money for a search committee?

Because most people wouldn't allow a gay agenda to drive a decision. That obviously isn't happening again.

If this is true i am fine with them helping in finding the best candidates possible. But after that i would like Barchi and dobbs make the decision.

Coaching search firm is standard operating procedure. Chuck Neinas, the former Big 8 and Big 12 commish ran one for a long time and was involved in the search that brought Schiano here the first time.

Remember something guys:

Unless things have changed the position has to be publicly posted for 10 days before we can have someone sign on the dotted line. I wouldn't get to stressed out if there isn't an announcement overnight so this really isn't a big deal, either way, IMHO.

I've also HAD IT with GS...LET HIM WITHER....We're NOBODIES BACK UP PLAN....TAKE MC or ANYBODY...MAKE HIM REGRET IT...

I was specifically commenting on the use of a search firm for vetting. I understand that's how these things usually work, but it's also a bit of a crock. If something goes wrong with a hire, it just means the athletic director can point to the search firm and say he did his due diligence and the search firm was responsible for finding the skeletons in the closet. Nothing will happen to the search firm. They'll just walk away with their nice chunk of change of a fee. And Rutgers will have another mess on their hands with no one to take responsibility.

Dobbs, from the Church of the SubGenius?

Did it ever occur to any of you that if we are using the search process is because Gary turned down the deal offered him and Brown (who loves Gary) realizes he needs to move to some of the next candidates and wants to make sure they're vetted properly.

Per Hobbs at halftime.

This is different than what Barchi said yesterday.

I do not like search committees for head coaches because it suggests a lack of vision. I HOPE that the search firm is there ONLY to identify under the radar candidates as a contingency in the event that the few targeted guys don't come.

Doesn't everyone use search firms? It's not like they make the decision.

It doesn't mean Barchi was wrong. He, Brown, and Hobbs still do the important interviews and make the final decision just like he said.

Greg: "I am going to write down the number to get me interested". write write write
Hobbs: "!!!.... um we will get back to you".
Barchi: "Who is next on the list?"

I thought about that but I could see it the other way around too. It's our way of trying to remove leverage from Schiano to say hey if you don't like our offer we're moving on but does it mean we really have or just more negotiating tactics? So I can see it from either side.

It's pretty freaking obvious at this point that Al Golden will be our next coach because he's the only one that actually wants then job.

Greg doesn't want it.
Mario doesn't want it.
PJ will take the WMU payday.
Etc.
