Maybe coaches figure a returner on a doormat will get a lot more return chances so they don't just go by stats when making comparisons. A guy could just be "a complier" as Francesca likes to say. In any case, it seems like Peppers has some of the Kardashian thing going on where celebrity outstrips resume.
Grant had more TDs than Likely & should've been 1st team & won the returner award. The fact that he was 3rd team by anyone is beyond a joke. These B1G coaches all kicked away from him.
Grant only had 12 PR's this year which does not qualify for leaders list. His 13.92 avg would have placed him 9th in the nation.Lilely was a ranked returner for punts and KOs. Grant isn't even listen on page of ranked punt returners @ cfb stats. Likely was 3rd with 2 TDs and 418 yds for 18.2 average. Grant had 167 yds. Grant beats Likley for KOs (not by much) but Grant was still only 35th nationally (he had the most returns at 40). Solomon Vault of Northwestern had 2 TDs (with half the returns of Grant) and a higher average return (ranked 20th to Grants 35th). I'm not saying Grant wasn't a great returner and more deserving than Peppers. Having 3-4 TDs on returns isn't that unique among top teams. There are a bunch of other guys with same TDs in half the returns

Where do you see Grant was 10th in PR avg? He did not have enough returns to qualify. He had a 13.92 average. I find it hard to believe he would be 10th if you include non-qualifiers.I could easily see why he did not make it. His kick off return average was 4th in the league and his punt return average was 10th. Sure he a homerun threat but did not regularly get yardage.
I had it backwards. His punt return average was 4th in the league and his kick return average was 10th.Where do you see Grant was 10th in PR avg? He did not have enough returns to qualify. He had a 13.92 average. I find it hard to believe he would be 10th if you include non-qualifiers.
Ignoring guys with 1 PR and less than 10 KO returns for the season (very reasonable to do), Grant was 2nd in PR and 5th in KR. Peppers had no business even being mentioned as all BIG anything in returns.I had it backwards. His punt return average was 4th in the league and his kick return average was 10th.
