"People close to Stringer told NJ Advance Media she wished to pursue her 1,000th win in the NCAA Tournament, and not the WNIT. "

Coach will not seek her 1000 win in the wnit with this year's team. So next year's team will pursue 1000 against early season ooc competition. That is just weak

I don't think this was a good decision. If RU had accepted an NIT bid, it would likely have been one of the top 4 seeds and been able to host games for as long it kept winning. That would have given CVS a great shot at winning number 1000 at home if the team play up to its capability rather than playing like it did for most of the last 10 games of the season.

CVS's sore loser big ego is not a pretty thing. This seems like very bizarre behaviour to snub the WNIT. It smells like unsportsmanlike conduct. Sorry, it reflects poorly on Rutgers , Hobbs, and Stringer. These kinds of snubs can come back and haunt you. It's a sad comment on her.

Enough is enough. For years Ocean and Monmouth players and coaches refuse to go near Rutgers because of her. Recruits from Mississippi to Mars on our roster every year.

101.5 reports CVS is working on some sour grapes. First she accepted the WNIT bid and then reneged. Makes her look bad as she always grumbles about something

Another head scratching move by CVS.

She didn’t want to get her 1K win in the NIT, so she accepts the bid then turns it down? Bizarre.

What about the Seniors on the team? CVS deprived them of playing in their final collegiate games in favor of calling attention to her own bruised ego.

Terrible leadership from a HOF coach. Sooner she is out the door at RU the better.

Here are your Seniors:
Just for some reference; Tyler was obviously dragging towards the end of the year, and had already passed Cappie in points. She has to worry about the WNBA draft now. Jazlynd Rollins was a JUCU that averaged 4.4 pts per game. Fitzpatrick also a Senior that averaged 1.7 per game. Nigia Greene a grad student averaged 4.4 a game. As far as returning players, I always worry about a freak accident, think ACL happening. So IMO I think it was ok to turn this one down.

So with that logic you turn down the NCAA bid too?

No of course not. It's sounding a loud message again that we were screwed. I was very pro NIT a couple of years ago for other reasons.
The message it’s sending is the not one you think it is.

Don’t agree with the USC decision either.

Like I said in a different thread, there was no way she could make a decision which would please everyone. Accept the bid and fans find a way to say you are making it all about yourself and getting to 1000. Reject the bid and you are making the decision all about yourself and not wanting to get your 1000 wins in a lesser tournament.

“Damned if you you (accept), damned if you don’t (accept).

I don’t believe that for second. This is pure speculation and not well-founded speculation at that. No one complained when the NIT berth was accepted a few years ago and it is unlikely that anyone would have complained if it was accepted this time.

If the decision was based on the players not wanting to participate or health issues that is fine. But if the decision was unilateral, and really based on the coach wanting to get her 1000th victory in some other venue, all of the criticism is warranted.

The team earned an NIT bid rather than an NCAA bid. There is little legitimate controversy about them being left out of the NCAA given their full season body of work. Wouldn't most coaches embrace the opportunity to keep playing and developing the team further? Seems like a very selfish move that Hobbs obviously went along with .

I don't think this for a second. It's what they earned playing the way they did down the stretch.

If they won games down the stretch they would have been included. Take the decision out of the committee's hands.

If Stringer wants to get the benefit of the doubt from the committee, RU should have accepted the bid and worked on PR with the basketball community. Stringer has lost touch with the game and the politics within.

Then she should have been suspended and an assistant coach take over during the WNIT. That way the women can play the games and she can wait until next year to get
her 1,000th win against some scrub OOC team that they'll play in November.

Will there be 1000 fans there at that November game? $$$$

I don't think it's that.

But I'll just assume there has to be a better reason than some of the ones listed in the numerous threads on this topic.
I'm repeating myself with this comment but I felt the team was done playing for some reason a month ago. The whole energy level just went flat.

Playing in a post season tournament should be about the team and the university not about a coach getting her 1000th win.

Bad form if these are the facts.

Not sure how many of you are on Twitter, but Tyler tweeted out her support for CVS and asked people to stop slandering her. So it sounds like at least one of our players agreed with the decision.

The decline seemed to start on January 10 at Purdue. Coincidentally, that’s the same date on which Rutgers extended Steve Pikiell’s contract. Before that, the team was like a buzz saw. Then, it seems she started changing her substitution patterns and went away from the platoon system that was working well.

Actually, I think your bizarre comment is a very sad reflection on you. In all these years I can't ever remember seeing you post on this board.

Does Stringer have any plans to have a season ending media wrap up or talk to anyone beyond a university issued statement? Might be worth having even if her press conferences are usually cringe worthy.
