Above is a link to an extension he signed 2 years ago through the 2023-2024 season with guaranteed money of $15 mil over 5 seasons.

Does Hobbs extend him again before the season ends to prevent other schools from poaching him and to make a statement to top potential recruits that he is here to stay?

If it is $3mil a year salary that is pretty good so not sure we can increase it too much but years and penalties for leaving would be key.

I have seen posts of some top recruits considering Rutgers along with the blue bloods. In the past some kids past on Rutgers because they were not sure the coach would stick around. After Waters we rotated coaches every few years for various reasons.

I'm sure the performance bonuses include getting to the post season (NIT or NCAA) with increases depending on how far they get but yeah, he may need another bump to anchor him here. As I said in another thread, and using some of his words, this IS the best league in the country in the best media market so why leave?

I don't think getting any player should be part of an extension. That gets into slippery territory, IMHO.

There are a lot of conference games left and while I think we will be very competitive in nearly all, this seems like something we don't need to be worrying about right now.

If I recall, Pike's extension included a pretty sizable buyout, no? Other than him wanting to go back to UConn when they're in the Big East (unlikely due to both Hurley and UConn budget issues) I'm not sure why he'd even want to leave, between the new facility, being in the B1G, fertile recruiting area once we get it going, etc. We just have to be willing to pay a reasonable rate with the rest of the league.

Only thing that would make me nervous is if Hobbs gets knifed by the FB program and Schiano installs a puppet. Pike loves Hobbs
