Pikiell Talks to WRSU for 15 minutes or so

"We're going to build this program around player development... and then we're on the recruiting trail."
This is exactly how he did it at Stony Brook. We need guys who not only have the talent, but will grow in the program and be here a minimum of 3 to 4 years. We're never going to be the kind of program that lands the one and done kids. And personally, I don't want that type of kid here anyway. We can be very successful with 3 and 4* kids who develop under Pikiell, who become 4 and 5* teammates. A perfect example: Mathias and K. Edwards at Purdue. They both came in as 3* players and IMO are two of the best players at their positions in the B1G. Oh, and they've been around the program for the entire time too.

I love this style of building and have been preaching it since he was hired.

Interesting that Corey Sanders name was never mentioned by Pikiell during the entire 15 minute interview. He's gone.....

Agreed. It seemed like the radio guys were told in advance not to ask about Corey. Otherwise how do you not bring him up in this interview?

Yes. He was asked about the seniors and talked about each of the 4 individually. He also mentioned Geo, Issa, Mamadou, Eugene and Shaq.
Interesting. Anything notable about Issa or manado I? I appreciate ilyour feedback as I don’t feel like listening, lol

He talked about their development. Btw he pronounces Mamadou's last name as "due-core-A." I always thought it was just "Due-Core."

For the record, and I don't know when it was recorded, but Pikiell mentioned Corey as a junior and being a young team in his interview with Andy Katz on his podcast.

Local, I enjoyed the interview and thought the WRSU guys did a great job. But considering we as fans were the main audience for this interview, not asking about Corey was an unfortunate omission.

You could certainly argue that it's the elephant in the room and you have to at least ask the question but, in fairness to the guys, what exactly did you expect Pikiell to say to a question about whether Corey will be back? Corey himself said last week that he will take a couple of weeks and talk it over with those close to him over Spring Break and make a decision soon. So, it's not like Pikiell was going to break any news here. He's going to say the same thing he's said all along, that you are always recruiting. I think they did a really good job with the interview.
