Play like there is NO coaching

Never seen such chaotic individualistic bb.
Never been to AAU games & tourneys. That's all you will see. Basketball is still a sport where you can get 5 average guys that play solid fundamental ball in a movement offense and you have a really great chance to beat much more talented teams that play AAU ball

Even more damming is watching Matt Painter's offense. They scored at least three buckets on set plays coming out of timeouts. Pike's play coming out of a timeout resulted in a ridiculously deep three attempt from Hayes.

I've been saying it for 3 years now. Pikiell has no idea how to install an offense and his major flaw was never finding a bench coach that was competent in doing that. Here is were we are now. We suck.
It’s not that. He knows basketball O and D. He just doesn’t recruit team play skills. He recruits guys suited to the iso, beat your man offense you see.

Iso ball is basically playground ball O. Fair that he knows D. If that is what he can do he failed badly in using the portal to not even have a backup plan there.

There is none. How about the time they inbounded the ball under their own basket for a layup. They teach you in the fifth grade to put a defender there.

Which is the same as Pike's end of half/end of game call. Just give Geo/Dylan or whomever is the lead guard the ball and let them hold it until time to throw up a three. It's laughable.

Don't forget the throw in that resulted in a backcourt violation.Unwatchable basketball.

Yes, that's a better description. Playground ball. Player's coach. Hands-off offense. That's what he's selling to top recruits.

It's not working with this mix of players, but that's his recruiting mo and coaching lane. Purdue boatraced them, but that's how our roster was constructed this year.

At the next Court Club meeting, can someone ask the staff to draw up one of our plays?

Some keep saying "Hayes needs to move without the ball" or "the players need to get themselves open for shots. They can't just stand around."

I would bet that most of our plays are designed for 1 or 2 players and the other players are told to stand around off ball.

of course plays are called for specific players, designed according to their skill sets and to exploit matchups. our plays are fine. most of the time teams don't run plays. The baseline inbound to Bailey circling to the corner is one such play. es bueno.

the issue is we don't have an offense, which is not the same thing as 'plays' . An offense is supposed to use all five to pass, screen and move to create multiple options for good shots. That's what we don't do. Instead, we expect our players to get good one on one shots by beating their defenders.
