I like how he handled the post game. Gave those hacks nothing.

The guys on BTN pretty much ripped him the other day for how he handled the presser. Basically put it right in there with the rest of the fiasco(s) we've been dealing with lately (I don't have an opinion on it, either way, to be honest...) as another example of what Greg built "falling apart."

on Big ten and beyond they cut him some slack... So..

Good to know I was a little surprised, to be honest, but again - in the end - I don't care as he's not, nor I doubt will he ever be, our HC. Definitely seems like a good guy though and it's good to know that the players love him!

Players feelings about Wilson really matters very little right now. What matters is how the players perform and based on 3 games the answer is lots of improvement is required.

Win and it will not matter what he says. Win Saturday then with a week off much of this stuff will become old news.

Players did not love Vince Lombardi or Bill Parcells but those coaches could win. Is this an intramural football team or a multi million dollar organization?
He won when he changed himself and his quarterback. The former almost cost him his job.

People can change. And sometimes they better.

Players seem to love Flood too.. is it because he is lax with discipline.. because he was less demanding than GS was?

I used to see a lot of comments that GS was too hard on the guys and caused preseason injuries and the like.. have we swung too far the other way?

I heard they got a margarita machine for the locker room.

You posting this here is like posting on a Syrian message board an article about the top 10 shwarmas in Damascus.

The program is in turmoil precisely because of the devoid of leadership from the coach everyone loved. Funny you never heard how much they loved Schiano but they sure as hell respected him.

I'm not so sure, as has been implied by some here, that being a player's coach and being a successful, winning coach are mutually exclusive. I think, like most things, that there's a balance. I also know from experience that not all players respond to the same kind of stimuli. Great coaches quickly identify each player's psychology and tailor their behavior towards that player accordingly.

I confess to lightly following Columbia football and always liked Wilson. Not sure he's a B1G HC but can't see why the fuss over the interview. Guess media people are stuck on the Friday Night Lights coach stereotypes

It's not that. It's that he took the opportunity to show a little contempt for the trashy NJ "circle jerk journalism" crew, and if there's one thing that "media" folks know how to do these days, it's circle the wagons.

Personally, I thought his post-game was just tits.

Few people outside of the media and your typically dramatic thought that press conference was something crazy.

Loved the article...good guy...lets get a W for him on Saturday.

As far as the crticism....they are all pathetic writers...who gives a crap what they think?

Once we as a school and fan base learn how to do this the RIGHT way...it's on.:sunglasses:

I gotta ask a question: when have you guys EVER seen a kid, currently on a team/on scholarship, not say they "love" a coach (unless he's already headed out the door) or, at the very least, not speak poorly of the guy/gal?? Not saying anything bad, about any coach, this is simply a very generic comment/question.

Seemed pretty good to me too. He's not polished, but that's part of his charm.

It's great that the players love Wilson......he seems to be a likeable guy....however loving your coach doesn't translate to wins........further Wilson's 17-42 record as a HC at Columbia and 10-31 Ivy Conference Record is all I need to know that Wilson should remain duly and fully employed as RB Coach during this and the next regime.

this wasn't about wins and losses just about how his current and past players respected him yet the typical subjects make it into something different

The problem is that certain posters have a habit of claiming that players love one coach or another as if that's supposed to make up for a bad coaching job or players loving a coach is more important than fans being happy, fans and not players being happy being the ultimate point of it all. This is a BUSINESS first and foremost. If you can't do your job well how the players feel about you means squat.

Silly thread. He isn't a B1G coach and he never claimed that was and the Idea that his record at Columbia keeps him from getting a job is ridiculous. The guy who replaced him also got fired but he is considered an up and comer. Norries Wilson is an excellent coach. His players adore him, he loves Rutgers, and if a change is made I hope he is retained. In fact, he's one of 3 coaches I'd keep. Before you ask....
Wilson

Does it really matter? They supposedly love Flood too. I guess the more love they have for a coach, the less disciplined they are on and off the field. I guess machiavelli's age old question of "Is it better to be loved or feared?" is answered, that to be feared is better (like Schiano).

Nice article..and the next article after that as you scroll down, fittingly, Gary takes an official visit to Michigan...Its always something..

A thread on Scarlet Nation about a free lunch would devolve into complaints that the time was inconvenient, the bread was stale, and the cold cuts were low quality. This was a positive story about a position coach at Rutgers, one whom players like, and his way of doing things. He is the running backs coach--a position that has been pretty solid since he has been here. But some of you will find a way to piss on anything and turn it into a negative. You must be the life of any party.

Julie Hermann making a cameo on the radio show. She says she's "super proud" of Norries Wilson.

I'm not going to opine on Wilson's potential as a future HC, but will ask who you think could deal with Columbia's admissions office (where football is considered a negative factor) and team history over the last 30 years and produce a better record?

An "excellent coach". Would not have kicked a FG down 21-0 with 11 min left.

I disagree. The chances of us converting that 4th down based on the way the offense was producing were pretty much zero. So he put points on the board to, at the very least, avoid the shutout. I was fine with the decision - we weren't gonna win the game.

But there was that one time in Upper Manhattan...
