If it plays out properly there will be a domino effect both in and out of state wherein elite players start to come here. Then, Ash and his staff have to put the product on the field that makes them want to stay and keeps the recruiting rolling. That phase starts in the fall. I know these aren't the guys who will be playing next fall but all eyes will be on how this team plays and how they are coached. RU can not afford a Brady Hoke fail on the field. We need not win every game but the team needs to perform and compete. We can't afford four more blowout losses. Some posters have been saying we should calm down and wait to see what happens. They are both right and wrong. We need to see the on field product. On that they are correct. But we can enjoy and get excited about what we see happening on the recruiting front. It bodes well. On that we need not calm down.

But for real, Ash was presumably an Xs and Os guy and defensive specialist. His recruiting was a complete unknown. A bit of a no-nonsense, staid demeanor with no NJ dudes on staff...who really knew how that would go. I thought things would move slowly recruiting wise and he would coach 'em up and bear the fruits of that later. Similar to MSU's trajectory under Dantonio.

So that fact that he already snagged 2 of the top 5 NJ 2017 recruits while the previous coach couldn't match that in FOUR years...that is very big IMO.

WOW--I just read we will have 100 recruits at the Spring Game, not to mentions TONS of other youth and high school players.

these are verbal commits, you havent signed anyone yet.

Calm down. The current recruits know they aren't going to turn the program around before they even get there. We will get at least 2-3 good recruiting classes before Ash is judged on the on field performance.

If Ash and his staff do their job right, we can afford bad results on the field - THIS year. If that happens, the message that Ash will be constantly communicating to recruits is "It's not about this season." Granted that only works once, maybe twice.

Who is telling us to calm down?
Some excitement is warranted, but we need to temper our excitement. After several years of getting coal in our collective stockings, it is nice to get some great news.

Ash seems like the kind of guy who will greatly temper the expectations of recruits and tell them that RU will have some growing pains on the field for a couple of years. Hopefully, if expectations are set, we don't have a repeat of the 2013 mass exodus. Obviously, there were many other issues that year, which have all been cleaned up, and we should have smoother sailing in a postdiluvian world.

I hate tempering when it comes to being a fan. I temper away in job and such, but not with Rutgers.

Honestly Knight I can't remember which thread I was reading yesterday because I have been bouncing from thread to thread but in one of them as fans were getting into the recruiting and the commitments there were a string of posts saying we should calm down (or pick your favorite equivalent from the list above) until we see how Ash coaches on the field. It just irritated me because, although they are right about the on field product, it seems to me to be a different issue. So, I vented. And seeing how this thread has gone I am almost sorry I did.

Don't be sorry.

All you need to remember is you can't post anything positive without hearing why you shouldn't be happy from the "Guest Lecturers". These are posters who apparently feel it's their mission to pee on your cornflakes at every turn. Ignore them
