Please stop telling us to calm down

Honestly Knight I can't remember which thread I was reading yesterday because I have been bouncing from thread to thread but in one of them as fans were getting into the recruiting and the commitments there were a string of posts saying we should calm down (or pick your favorite equivalent from the list above) until we see how Ash coaches on the field. It just irritated me because, although they are right about the on field product, it seems to me to be a different issue. So, I vented. And seeing how this thread has gone I am almost sorry I did.

But do you agree with threads that have us winning the national championship already? Its called balanced enthusiasm...let's not go nuts here...

No need to be sorry, and certainly don't gauge your sorrow based on how the thread has gone. We like to eat our own here.

Like I said, I think at the first sign of great news for football or hoops, many of us get very excited. But those who said that Ash has not coached a game yet are right. I even heard Coach Ash say something to the effect of "I have not done anything yet" in response to a fan gushing over what a great job he was doing.

Ash could perhaps be another Brady Hoke or James Franklin on the field, but my gut tells me he is not. He is such a detail-oriented guy like Schiano, and he seems to have a plan and an approach for every aspect of the program that entails excellence. Will it translate in game-day strategy? I don't know. But we should be ready there will be some rough spots on the field with the no offense , and the usual trolls, self-loathers and wound lickers will come out of the woodwork and wet their pants with glee. Whatever happens, one of Ash's best apparent traits is is that he is very grounded and humble, and he is not setting any ridiculous bars like "winning championships."

Go RU!!!

Take a deep breath.

I have no problem with people tempering their enthusiasm with a reality check. That is not my point. If you want to temper the enthusiasm for these commits by saying that they are only verbal commits and we have seen how that can go south in a hurry in the past, and wait until they are signed I can accept that. But they shouldn't say we can't be excited about these commits because Ash hasn't coached a game yet. Those are two different issues.

Dpgru, I say screw them all who try and temper your enthusiasm. Hell yesterday I was yelling and dancing in my living room, my wife says, "what the hell are you so happy about?". I told her about the recruits and she said, "So you finally got some good news on recruiting". It's been a long time since good news has come our way. We went all last year with nothing but scathing scandals, arrests, loses and decommiting players. Hell the season from an enthusiasm and optimistic stand point was over before it even started. Let the Good Times Roll on this end and let the pessimist or that other term they like to describe themselves as, realist, muddle in their misery.

Couldn't agree with you more. This has been the best I have felt about things in a long time. That alone is worthy of some excitement.

this rutgers football board has some funny characters. A lot more personality here than most other fan sites.

Its great that we bring some personality to the conference, the Big Ten was kind of lacking for a while.
