Politi picks his...

Watch the 2008 team and compare it to our offense this year if you think Schiano's offenses were universally bad. We bombed teams into oblivion that year....post rice and Leonard.

2008? They started the year 1-5.
What about 2009, 2010, 2011?
We beat a bunch of nobody's.
And every bowl win was against crap teams.
Granted, better than nothing and surely exciting for our fans who had nothing to cheer for until that point, but there was an obvious plateau with Schiano.

Those that say he would be a good stop gap.
I can almost guarantee it will be the same situation we found ourselves right before he left.

Many will complain he can't beat any good teams, he is a micro manager that can't attract and keep high quality assistants, and we will never be able to fire him and make an upgrade because he'll win "just enough."
Remember, RUTGERS does not fire coaches with winning records unless there is scandal involved. His buyout would be too much too pay. Also, if you tried to replace a 2-2.5 million Schiano, who are we going to get? An "unproven" up and comer? (If that is the case, do it now). Or a 3-4 million "name" coach? Not likey to pony up that much, and not realistic we could hire away a "home run" from a top team.

Greg is light years a better coach than Flood.

And even more separation in recruiting.
Several years ago, Savage made rookie qb all American, That fall
Sanu was the only person on that team that had caught a college game
pass. So Greggie had Sanu play qb with no experienced receivers
and he thought he was going to fool the opposing coach by running
the wildcat. He was the worst, so bad he couldn't even beat last
place 0 and 11 Syr. After the game he was asked about this, and he
stated: Robinson change QB's at half time on us, and we got confused."

I wouldn't hate Schiano, but would rather somebody is new and exciting.

this is how I feel...as someone who was not a Greg supporter at all and felt he plateaued by 2007, I would accept this hire because I believe that in the Big 10 Greg can land some bigger recruits especially NJ and I think he would at least keep the program above water and out of the police blotter. Still he wouldn't be my first 2nd or even third choice. I also say this about Golden, wouldn't hate it and would accept it no problem but not my top 3

Those are my feelings as well, we can do better and I much rather move on than be stuck in the pass. That being said, I sure would not be upset if he did come back and I would support him 100% until it was made clear that bringing him back was mistake or not and he retires here a legend, who knows.

Think of Schiano as the best girl you ever had. She wasn't the prettiest, the smartest, but she was best you ever had (I know someone's going to project to the best f**k you ever had). Your friends respected you, wanted you around, thought she was pretty damn good (not to mention a couple of the BMOC tried to take her from you) and you had the best dates ever.

Big, rich movie star took her away....and after a couple of years a friend calls you and says she's available -- the movie star dumped her. You gonna give her a date? Not marry her, but just a date or two.....

You nailed it, but this is what makes me so afraid of a Schiano hire. For me, its like if the chick came back and said "I f*cked up, I love you, let's get married."

I would actually be fine with Schiano coming back for 5 years. He would get this team right on track and would bet us to the middle of the Big Ten. I am just fearful that if he comes back he will never leave. And we will be stuck with him being outcoached by the top of the Big Ten forever.

I see your concern. But, think about it....if Schiano "peaked" it wouldn't be in year 5. That would mean he was still on the upswing and everybody would be happy as his first recruiting class would be seniors with even better players in the pipeline.
If he flattened out after two/three years and we were destined for 6-6, 7-5 seasons going forward we could tell him he's not being extended; he'd see the handwriting on the wall (2 years as a lame duck would kill his recruiting and he'd want out before his rep took any further damage). He would quietly leave when an NFL DC job opened up.

Hopefully, our bigger worry would be him being so successful he might get poached. I'd gladly have that problem.

There are a lot of ifs, ands, and buts. The key thing is to engage him now; determine his level of interest; $$$, years, buyout, etc conditions. If it's not workable, we can quietly cut bait and persue alternatives. So can he.
