I think it was year 3 of GS1.0 where the big preseason multipage spread covering Rutgers Football season preview was led off with a game-by-game recap of teh previous season where we had gone 1-11.
It's a brand new season, with new recruits, a new quarterback, and a new OC, and the Star-Ledger figured what its readers needed most was a game-by-game recap of the previous awful season.
That was when I first became certain that someone at the Star-Ledger hated Rutgers.
But it got worse. They campaigned to remove Bob Mulcahy as AD. There was this series of investigative reports about Greg Schiano's "secret" payouts from a vendor which were not counted in the AD's report of his pay. That was Sherman and Margolin, who had won a Pulitzer for breaking news coverage of a NJ Gov McGreevy.. breaking news that the Star-Ledger knew all along and was forced to report once the general public became aware of McGreey's fiscal and sexual shenanigans with an Israeli consultant. This time Shrman and Margolin reported on a "secret" pay plan for Schiano that had been announced in a press release in the Star-Ledger six months earlier. The Star-Ledger then put up Sherman+Margolin for a sports coverage Pulitzer.. which they did not win.
From the photos they select to go with stories to the titles to when they choose to run certain stories with certain angles and how they order the paragraphs.. leading with the worst aspects of any story... the Star-Ledger / NJ.com is not fair to Rutgers.. it is an enemy of Rutgers.
