This place is truly magic. I havent talked to many fans who are craving a full renovation. Seems to me most fans just want to leave it the same and add some bathrooms. Curious the opinions and thoughts of this board.

I fall in the camp of dont touch a damn thing and merely just add some bathrooms, hell even just 2 walls full of porta potties.

I wonder why our AD feels its so necessary to renovate. And if its due to jersey mikes requiring it or they pull them sponsorship then fvck em. We’ll re-bid it out and make more money

Some Indiana fans sitting near me were talking about how it had such a high school feel to it. This was to begin the game and I said just wait until you hear how loud it is and the place will shake.

I NEVER want to lose that feeling, but will say that we need to renovate the inside and at least paint the outside of the building. We can add more seats and renovate inside but think we should do it in between seasons if possible. Maybe play the end of our season in another venue and start our season in another venue but have games here in season over the 2yrs

💯

Don't change a damn thing

Renovations absolutely needed, but not at the expense of losing the magic / noise, and certainly not at the expense of playing a year away at some other venue

Do it in increments, even if it costs more. Put on our thinking hats and get it done

We’ve got something going gets we haven’t had in 30 years - don’t mess with it

A smarter marketer would have not changed the name but made it for example Jersey Mike's RAC.

The outdoors needs renovation.
In the old days it was like a missile silo standing out in a grassy field. Put a shell around it to create concourses...

Hobbs is doing the bourgeois thing at the expense of what is good for the team and program. Just add bathrooms and call it a day. !
Add a restaurant or lounge for the money people above section 118. An Audi club per se.

It needs a concourse outside the gates so that fans aren’t standing in the rain - snow - cold waiting to get their tickets punched.
A real lobby with trophy cases etc. and it makes sense to do it in the grassy area facing the parking lot and make that the new front - the current entrance of walking up a pavement path is terrible.

But other than expanding the inside by wrapping the bowl around old 118, not much more needs to be done to the seating arrangement. The renderings of what they want to do look awesome

I would give up a season if we played at Jadwin for OOC and MSG for the 10 B1G games, maybe 1 or 2 at PRU

indiana has this: BEFORE you are actually ticketed inside the arena. We went in here when we played them in football. It was cool.
Trophies, and warmth for fans waiting to punch ticket.

I think a lot of the people who are upset now about losing the season will be very happy with the finished product in the long run.
Who cares about shiny new things. Atmosphere>>>>. I could care less if i was breathing in asbestos if it meant that type of atmosphere. You think shu fans wouldnt die to have a RAC on campus over the rock?

When people turn to say insulting things, it means you've gotten under their skin. What you see is an inferiority complex on full display.

Here’s what I would do: Eliminate the offices above 118 and where the current “box” seating is on that flat pavilion area, build a full section that goes all the way up where offices are.

I would also restructure the student seating to be closer to the court to fit more seats. Other than that, dont change a damn thing about the place

Add bathrooms, build a structure on exterior that connects to RAC with amenities

Agree with this. In addition, you’ll need to build a new concourse building/Structure adjacent to RAC that connects to it. I’d also add seatbacks to 300s. None of this requires missing a season

There were some younger female Indiana fans in the line next to me to get the tickets scanned. I don't remember the exact words, but I think they called it pathetic. My guess is they felt differently after the game.

I would add bathrooms at the opposite end of our current bathrooms and a player's family lounge at the middle doors on the APC side. We are recruiting families as much as athletes, and giving them a premium game experience with bathrooms would be a good selling feature. IMO

I don’t understand how so many people think that doing anything other than bathrooms means you’re risking the atmosphere.

Imagine this. Above section 118 , which is currently dead space . You create luxury boxes above 118. You pull forward the upstairs and enclose up the current concourse of that area. Now you have a 2 story luxury feature which pulls the wall and fans even closer and more in top of the court. That would amplify the sound even more. And accomplish the much needed upscale seating option.

The acoustics are about 2 things: the slope of the stands and the ceiling. Those 2 things aren’t changing - ever - so we’ll be fine.
I agree…slope must not change with any additions….which, if they did change slope could also, affect duration for RAC would be out of commission

Let’s all contact Jersey Mike’s. Imagine the good press they could get for not going through the renovations to risk the arena’s magic.
