Quote from a post on Reddit (from another thread's link) - would love to see the Football Outsiders article on this, if anyone can find it:

"skodi 25 points 18 hours ago

Football Outsiders did a break down on coaching experience and success as a head coach. There was no correlation between defensive or offensive coordinator experience and a higher rate of success as a head coach. Also, the correlation between previous head coaching experience and future success was so small as to be almost nonexistent.

Hiring a new coach is basically a crapshoot."
