So we are predominately a 21 to 22 personnel (two backs one TE or two backs and two TES) offense on 1st and second down. But when you watch the NFL now it is almost exclusively 12 and 11 personnel. Other than specific situations a majority of NFL offenses are closer to the Ohio State run first spread minus the QB runs.
I really think McDaniels is doing a nice job given his limited personnel at QB, TE, and WR. Keep in mind we are playing 2 young walk-ons at TE and a walk on at WR (Mathews). I do believe if he had more confidence in the QB you would see more 11 personnel.
On another note for fans calling for Rettig. The offense cannot function with him. notice there were 2 timeouts called while he was in. In theses offenses the QB is responsible for getting the team into the correct run based on the count along with the correct protection on pass plays. This is something I am told he really struggles with.
