PSU student whiteout

I've got to give you credit...when it comes to "spin" you have no equals. I've got to give you a little bit of a black mark, however, because PSU has won the last 8 contests. But still putting that out there (I'm assuming you probably were thinking of 1988, 1995 and last year) is quality stuff.

Do you actually believe that when you are typing it or do you chuckle a little? Serious question.
I didn't follow RU when I was 2 years old in the 70's but when we were playing Lehigh, Colgate and Princeton were we really expecting to compete against them?if you want to go back to the thirties PSU probably has a losing record against schools like UPenn and Yale.....is that relevant in today's football world?

What's relevant in today's football world is the fact PSU is perceived to have a stronger football program than us, and there's only one way to change it, and we haven't done that yet.
I know, if we lose up there, you were only 2 in the 70s.

Well... if he started watching in the 80's, then Rutgers was 1-14. If it was the 90's then it was 0-7. I'm not sure where vkj91 is going with this.

PSU has the perception edge as shown by their ability to attract top NJ recruits. Its the catch 22 situation where winning in head to head competition is the only way Rutgers will gain any respect from PSU and from other B1G schools. There is no question Franklin will try to run up the score in front of the white out crowd.

If you guys are concerend about perception than we are screwed. You could beat them 5 times in a row and they'd still have the history. We beat Michigan this year and our fans were all to quick to point out why it didn't matter. Not to mention reading all off season about how they'll be better and we will be worse. As if all those 4 stars took the week off last season

The reason we feel that we will be much improved is because we started a ton of youth last year. Three of our top four WRs were freshman, four of our starting OL were first-time starters (including 1 converted DT and two RS FR). On defense, Zettel, Bell, Wartman, Cabinda and Allen were first time starters. This year, we will only have one first time starter on offense (our LT) and three one defense, although those three got significant playing time last year (Sickels, Nassib and Haley/Campbell). We were the 2nd youngest team in college football last year.

Look lets not get crazy here, Penn State has owned Rutgers in football.

Rutgers came close last year but couldn't finish.

Rutgers/Penn State has all the ingredients for a great regional rivalry but it will never live up to it if Rutgers doesn't win.

Penn State has a great rep for being extremely hard to beat at home. Even the great OSU barely beat them there last year!

If Rutgers wants to shock the world and get the rivalry started, all they have to do is win this year. That will at least turn the oven on :football:

Nah, it's a whiteout game which the students can go out and party afterwards. It will be well attended. If it was a noon or 3:30 game with nothing special going on, you would be correct.

has the game time been announced yet? I don't think so. My bet is the Michigan game is a 3:30 start which, in State College in mid November is pretty much a night game anyway.

By the way, a student section white out at PSU is a pretty cool thing to see. In fact, as Sports Illustrated has said, the Penn State student section is the best in college football. Very entertaining.

My guess is that it will be a 3:30 game regardless of the teams' records. A 3:30 whiteout is way different than a 3:30 regular game though. It should also be noted that this is, by far, the highest profile game on our home schedule (which is absolutely pathetic this year). People won't miss it, including the students.

Penn State is one of the few Power 5 schools in the nation who do not play any OOC power 5 schools this upcoming season.

It is cream puff city. they should win 10 games.

Rutgers is the whiteout by default...

DEFAULT! DEFAULT! DEFAULT! DEFAULT!

I don't know why people are so quick to declare the Rutgers game unimportant. I don't think you could really make a case for it not being number 2, unless you're saying it's the MOST important. I voted RU for the whiteout game, and I'm mad it's going to be against UM this year.

That said, I wouldn't count on Rutgers getting the full stadium white out in the future. Typically, that is reserved for UM or OSU in late October. The exception being that Pitt will be coming to Beaver stadium in 17 and 19. I think those will both be white outs.

I could see Rutgers continuing to be a student white out, but with RU moving to November in the schedule, I don't see them being the "premier game" anytime soon.

My guess going forward:
2016 - OSU
2017 - Mich./Pitt
2018 - OSU/MSU
2019 - Mich./Pitt

I look forward to seeing you guys up at Penn State this year.
