QB #5, who is that?

Laviano went 0-12 in a Spring Game, and at that time I said he would never be a serious D1 player. You cannot come back from that, and tonight's effort reinforces that sentiment.

I can't believe that Laviano is still getting this much playing time, short throws, inaccurate, as well as slow. While, Rettig still gets the raw end! With Laviano the Offense seemed methodical. As soon as Rettig gets in(1st half), things start to move just a little faster, with purpose, and result.
Second half, Laviano had a few good throws, which led to TD's. Rettig gets the "running clock" qtr. the 4th.
I sure hope this is not last year all over again....

Laviano must look awesome in practice. That's got to be the reason

I am always amazed how many people think they are QB experts.

I havent seen any of the QBs play but I find it humorous that people think Flood(the ex coach everyone likes to demonize) was mistaken that Laviano was the better QB
and
now a coach who has coached on a national championship team
he ALSO seems to favor Laviano...but he is also delusional?

How is that possible?

Rettig said himself needs to work on leadership I'm sure coaches are now preaching accountability or else he is your starter. Think the only thing keeping him from being starter is field leadership

They all have their pluses and minuses. We don't know what they are being judged on so our opinions mean nothing. Especially a few of the jokers above. I just hope they all improve over the summer and the competition lead s to points on the board for RU. Some of you have your mind made up and show no clear reason for why.

Retting really was zipping in those passes in that last drive. Think he is the better QB, regardless of system.

Unless there is a significant change leading up to fall practice, I think Ash will opt for the guy who is really playing best. Also, I like the fact if the guy isn't having a good game, try the next guy. Don't worry about the confidence factor vs who is performing better in that game. As long as everybody knows that up front, it shouldn't cause issues and being this is a tradition period for RU football, it's give and take for all. Up stream Red team !!!

I think rettig had a small edge in performance last night. Lav was able to scramble out of trouble more but we didn't get to see full result of that because of the non-contact rule.

Rettig did okay last night. His accuracy appears to have improved a bit over last year, which one would expect. And I agree that, in last night's scrimmage, Rettig had the edge on Laviano.

However, I'm really glad it's the coaching staff and not the know-it-alls on this board making decisions about who plays. People watch one scrimmage in which nobody was allowed to hit the QBs, and in which the coach had said much of the playbook would not be shown, and people are already deciding they know who the starting QB should be.

I don't think the QB play was nearly good enough last night from anybody. I completely see what Ash has been talking about vis-a-vis the QB situation, and why he's not ready to name a starter.

OTOH, we clearly have some forum members who are sure starters on the conclusion jumping squad. So at least we have that going for us.

Laviano may be the starter but unlike clueless Flood, Ash will not let his starting QB look lost out there for multiple games in a row without making a change.
