There will be at least a couple heading for the door when they see this offense really doesn't fit their skill set.
Fixed. No good deed goes unpunished. This stuff can be looked up on the roster and cobbled together from the offers.
hearing for the door - or studying a different section of the play book. A lot will depend on the player (skill set & mind set) - if the player is fixated on being "the QB" they might move on - if the player has great athletic talent and Ash & Co see a different role that could provide them with playing time & ability to contribute - they might opt for a position switch - only time will tell.
Providing team with back up plans so they don't get caught short if some of current QBs decide to transfer.
If we get two more we can run an all QB offense.
Just for Jollies here is my order of QB many guys are sight unseen.

#1 Laviano- RS Jr ( he has the most experience and should start till someone breaks out)

#3 Rescigno- RS So (has the potential to grow into effective spread QB needs more reps)
#4 Tylin Oden-Fr (RS?) (too green to start this year but a quick learner could be playing by Nov.)
#5 Rettig- RS Jr (has not shown the quicks to make the power spread option plays IMHO)

To further define my point on #5 I do not think he has the mental quickness to make fast decisive calls. Physically quickness is not so much of the issue, whereas, the mental quickness will be his shortcoming.

It should be an interesting summer. I hope Ash and company handles the situation better than ....lol
While I don't believe jobs are going to be won in the spring, I still think that there will some hierarchy in place at the start of preseason camp. The freshman are going to be pretty far behind the returning players.
Hope springs eternal. .In the Spring.. Great discussion but without an O line and wide receivers we are wasting all 9. This is the cause of the staff's present and future agita.
Wow has this board turned on Rettig, this time last year the majority were saying he was the savior of the program, then he plays a good half against an FCS squad, doesn't see the field for any meaningful snaps (because flood had an agenda) and all of a sudden a true freshman and a couple of backups have passed him? I think Ash sees he has the most potential to work with this year and is named starter to run a hybrid spread/pro offense...I also can't get excited over any PWO QBs, if any are to start a game I'd have to seriously question the the eye for talent on this board as I recall the excitement over bringing in Dare and to a lesser extent Gio when they signed.
I wouldn't say "the board". It's one or two people that may have changed their mind or always felt that way. I believe Rettig has a good a shot as any of the QBs to get the job. Laviano and Rettig will battle it out during the spring just like they did last year. The younger guys (Dare and Gio especially) will be fighting to catch up. Because everyone is starting a new offense, it will be interesting to see who catches on quickest.
Maybe an over exaggeration but if someone put up a poll I bet there is a large contingent that have dropped rettig (for really no reason that any of us have seen with our own eyes) in their ranking of the QBs on staff.
My greater point was to pull back on the reigns of including PWOs in any QB competition, it's pretty clear Oden will red shirt and if that is the case then no way any of the other guys will be competing this year or even next year most likely...how many PWO QBs compete for playing time in there first few years in a program? If they did, they'd most likely be on scholarship somewhere
