R.I.P. ESPN's John Saunders

I was very down when I heard John Saunders passed away earlier today. He was probably my favorite ESPN Personality. He was a very humble down to earth guy. I had no idea he was battling depression. One would never know by how he handled himself on-air. RIP.

Has the cause of death been communicated? I hope it wasn't suicide....

No cause announced yet.

College Football Live (ESPN) was a good one today. There were plenty of great Saunders stories. I learned his brother's name is Bernie. Yes, Bernie Saunders.

John Saunders hosted The Sports Reporters for the last fifteen years (since right after 9/11). I'm sure this Sunday's episode will be special. I recommend tuning in if you were a fan.

I haven't watched ESPN in years, but I used to enjoy seeing him on The Sports Reporters. He always kept it classy. May he rest in peace.

Depression is a very insidious disease that is not really all that well understood. Many times it affects the most sensitive and best people.

There are very few of us who are loved by just about everyone who knew them. John Saunders was one of those people.

One of my favorites too. Actually remember when he first started as a local sports newsman in Baltimore (in the early 80s when I first moved there). His career seemed to progress nicely to ESPN and I remember when he did the broadcast of our International Bowl in Toronto with Jesse Palmer (both native Canadians). He always seemed to handle himself with dignity and class.
