RAC Seats Potential to Increase

While I don't post often, but have followed these boards for years, the state fire code dictates how many doors you need per capacity and how wide your aisles and corridors need to be. Per the NJ uniform fire code: (a) Every story utilized for human occupancy having an occupant load of 500 or less shall be provided with a minimum of two exits, except as provided in (b) below. Every story having an occupant load of 501 to 1,000 shall have a minimum of three exits. Every story having an occupant load of more than 1,000 shall have a minimum of four exits.

so the RAC is pretty limited in space on creating more exit doors out of the building. So for another 1,000 seats you need to find a way to create at least 4 more exits in the building. Maybe easiest to building a promenade around the building to where you can add more exits, more concessions and more bathrooms

84 is right. IN CONCEPT - a combination of the “additions” in these two photos (better use of 118 and the area in front of the ticket office/concourse, better use of the corners ALL 4 of them, and wider/steeper/closer student section). Could get us closer to 10k or so.

Next - use of a dormer to blow out the front of the RAC for a new modern concourse and restrooms (BTW what are the rooms/walled off areas on the sides of the RAC used for...I believe one used to be a weight room). That space can also be used for expanded concourse needs (and possibly address fire code issues).

Then - address luxury boxes, and so our dear Colonel doesn’t have to admonish us any more, design a proper accessible area where it is now (designed into 118/luxury changes). We may also have some luxury and or accessible opportunities if the broadcasters sit court side... not sure why they don’t.

PS - the Dormer/Concourse/Restroom work is YEARS overdue. It was awful 40 years ago.

I remember that game well and it was probably the loudest I've ever heard the RAC and I've been going to game since its first year. I had good seats in the 100s but you could barely get out of the aisle because people were allowed to sit (or stand) on the steps. You would sweat through the entire game because people were almost on top of you. Those were fun times that will never be duplicated (for good reason) due to fire codes.
Even though I was standing, it was a great game. Still think that Atlantic Ten Championship win was louder, but maybe it just seemed like that to me after going through the Littlepage years. For the younger Rutgers fans, think Flood/Ash.

is there an opportunity to do something with the new practice facility where it can be expanded for attached club seating at the RAC?
Assuming you haven’t seen the new RWJ Barnabas Center in person, but there is roughly 80 yards between the two buildings. By the way, we need to put up multiple large signs outside The RAC that tell folks the Rutgers store is open. Most fans don’t even know.

Then that is 80 yards of available space for us to build out fan amenities, clubs, seating.

Have the connector bottom at least 2-3 stories up so pedestrians can walk under it. Have it as a 2-3 story connector with a club, concessions / food court, additional rest rooms, and other needed amenities.
