Rashan Gary's mom none too happy with Will Muschamp

For the record, I doubt Muschamp really believed he was going to get the USCe job, since he was like 8th on the list for getting it.

"Muschamp is a liar. A pure liar. … If I had his number I’d call him"

Mama don't play!

Yes but he could've said that. Using his son to say that he promised his son he'd stay at Auburn through high school is slimy. I understand that he gets more money and more stability at USCe, nothing wrong with saying that if you get an opportunity you do what's best for your family. Then Auburn could've spun it positively that coming to Auburn gives you opportunities. Now it's a negative.

there are lots of bad things that happen in college football, but this isn't one of them. guy landed a better opportunity and took it. you mean to tell me that she wouldn't do the same thing, given the same circumstances?

things change which is why recruits should commit to the school, not the coach.

What is wrong with wanting to know defense schemes. A lot of recruits want to know how they will be utilized.

I think it goes without saying, if you get a massive offer from another company you are leaving, to use her analogy. Does that really need to be said?

Anyone in the business world would already know that.

Wow. Wanting to know defensive schemes, what a diva!

That's not necessarily a bad thing. I recall a RU DL who left program because his weight and size didn't fit the defense. A shift here or there and kid can be in a new world. Look at Kroft catching passes all over one season and invisible the next (having been made a blocker by Fridge)

Welcome to major college football. This is not only commonplace but the norm. I read some online reports that Ash was conveying to OSU recruits when the rumors started to spread about other coaching possibilities , he stated to them he wasn't going anywhere. It's not an easy spot to be in but the recruits and their families have to realize that they are going to be fed some misinformation during the process. It's a pretty corrupt process and always has been.

The problem with this is that a change in coach can mean a dramatic change in philosophy, and prospects for a given recruit. If your strengths are in System A, you're going to look for a school that runs System A... and if a coaching change means a switch to System B, you may rethink your decision.

I would really hope in this day and age that recruits aren't so naive that they think their favorite coach is a lock to stay at the program during their entire tenure. The law of averages would suggest it's more likely that they leave than stay.

Mom is becoming a gigantic PITA, IMO. Making the coaches sit down and explain the defensive schemes they're running and being catered to left and right on visits. I think the success of Gary went to her head more than Rashaun's.
I met, and spoke to both Gary and mom, will agree with this statement.

Maybe Ash can name Ms. Cooney as DC allowing her to implement her own schemes since she is concerned wih same. The proviso of course is that Rashan must accompany her to the banks.

Wow...amazing how many of you guys are standing up for the guy. I think it is slimy to say you are not going anywhere when you have sent applications in to other places. And to say you promised your son and all that crap... slimy.

What if her son decided to decommit and go elsewhere? Is that really different?
Life is not nearly as static as many would like to believe.

Didnt our new coach tell kids last week that he was staying put. Now, not. Its a difference of style - but the substance - lying about your intentions until youve signed on the dotted line is the norm.

Auburn was blindsided? Didn't usc(e) ask for permission to speak with him?

In the land of rainbows and unicorns I am sure every coach would be up front and honest. However in the real world it just doesn't work like that. I hope your not naïve enough to believe that Ash has been telling recruits that he was looking to leave. I look at it this way, it would be insubordination if they starting telling recruits they were planning to leave. As long as they are an employee of that school they should continue on. If you ran a company selling a product would you want your sales people telling potential clients that they are applying for other jobs? You have them selling the product to the best of their ability. You would think his mother if she works in the business world would know that until you leave that job and sign the new one you do your job. You don't sabotage your current employer.

No, telling someone you promised your son/swear on your dead mother/whatever that you are not going anywhere when you are actively applying for other jobs is wrong no matter where, when, what industry.... There are ways to handle these things while keeping your integrity in tact. I'm sure it came up because someone directly asked him, and he should have responded just like Rasan's mom said...no coach, no matter who, can guarantee you they will be there the whole five years your son is in school. That would be good enough.

In addition, the idea that the 'kids ought to know better' is total BS. BS...they're kids....17, 18 years old. They should not know better...they'll believe what they're told.

We have no idea if that report was true or not. Could very well be pure speculation that he told OSU kids he was staying.

Just cross Auburn off the list.

No need for the histrionics.

I agree miketd1, I was wondering if I missed Gary committing to Auburn somewhere along the way - if not, this is even less of an issue than I originally thought it was.

This will result in a Edible Arrangements being sent by Auburn to Gary's mom to help deal with the pain.....I mean this is what we are talking about here, right???

And this is what a recruit in our backyard does and you don't act this way unless you've already be catered to for about 5 years already.....and we are somehow left to believe that this is an isolated item with a local parent.

Somehow, certain schools DON'T recruit certain kids that don't fit the culture of working, winning and trying really hard. Can you see her saying this to Harbaugh/Saban/Dantonio/David Shaw?? Or is this a low hanginf fruit here with Muschamp and Auburn.

When you are likely going to get paid for sending your kid to a certain school, I doubt that she pulls this stunt against a Les Miles/Saban/Harbaugh/Dantonio/Urban Meyer type of coach. The damage she is doing to the poor kids career is astounding....what is she going to do when Belicheck tells Gary to run specific drills or windsprints in 5 years, if he makes the league's combine in Indianapolis??? Is she going to tell Roger Goddell and other NFL people that Jadeveon Clowney didn't have to work out much at the combine years ago and he still got the top Draft pick and bonus money, so why should my proven son have to do that as well??

Truly sad that this is a representation of a top recruit and athlete.

In her defense -- and I can't believe I'm defending her, because ... whatever -- this is clearly the press calling her and lighting her up for quotes. I don't believe she held a press conference to express her dismay.
