With Karl Anthony-Townes (Piscataway/St. Joseph's) about to go #1 in the NBA draft tonight and Kyrie Irving going #1 a couple years earlier, it got me thinking about how we have such little expectation that any true blue chip basketball player (recruited by the Kentuckys and Dukes of the world) would ever play for RU, yet we feel all of the blue chip nationally-recruited prep football players should be committing to RU. Maybe I'm misreading the sentiment, but it seems to me that is the case - though to me, the situations (and excuses for going elsewhere) are comparable. I know there is much more regional competition with Seton Hall, St. Johns, Nova, etc., but the top guys rarely go to those schools anyway. And, it would also seem to me that if you got just 1 or 2 of these hoops kids to stay home at RU, you could turn things around significantly quicker than in football. I also understand that many of these guys are 1 and done at this point - but do we just not go after them for that reason?
