This whole thing would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Actually, I'm not sure if it's more sad or more infuriating.
What I highlighted here I agree with. That's what worries me so much. We are headed backwards quickly from being bad to horrendous.I guess I'm one of the few people not really bothered that we aren't focusing on NJ. We have zero chance at landing any decent NJ kid, which is why you've seen us recruit kids (and talented ones) from anywhere but NJ during Jordan's tenure. Recruiting won't change that much without a facility change. You guys screaming for Eddie to be fired are being irrational. This is his first real year with a team and not some patchwork job. There are like 7-9 new players or something ridiculous like that. Complain all you want, but that man is getting AT LEAST through Year 4. This year is about progression and improving. Next year is when I start to judge him on wins and losses.
I don't know much about Amed's recruitment, but I never expected De'riante Jenkins to end up at Rutgers. I did expect him to take all of his visits, but he surprised me. I don't think the football situation had an impact on him he also had a visit scheduled after Rutgers that, of course, he did not take once he committed.Hey Russ, everyone knows me as Mr. Positive, the guy who is always going to support the current staff and players.
I have a quick question....Rutgers was generating some momentum on the recruiting trail this fall with the Parker commit and scheduled visits with Bashir Ahmad and D. Jenkins in September. The staff worked hard during the summer following some top players and set up official visits. Then, the negative press surrounding football hit the national news. In a matter of 1 month, the two visits were canceled and Parker decommitted. Do you think there was any connection ? My common sense tells me there had to be link, but, I could be wrong.
Turning around basketball is the real reason we hired Hobbs.
While the FB hire was important - the program can fend for itself - I mean even Flood made a go of having a decent team. Basically most of the 10 or so realistic names listed around here from Ash up to Schiano would do about the same thing in all likelihood (given that we arent pouring resources into the program for any of them.)
But BB needs money. Its needs just the right hire. It needs to get those facilities off the ground immediately. Its what Hobbs will ultimately be judged on.
What exactly should he say to a guy that's been coaching for 25 years - do better?Agree. Until there is a serious commitment to a facilities upgrade, the right coach will not consider us. It doesn't make any sense to make a coaching change until that happens. In the interim, Hobbs needs to have a little talk with EJ.
Who ever that kid is we have no shot and if he does come here he would just transfer as a junior to Florida instead hitting his stride at the school he gave a commitment to. Keep recruiting outside of NJ. When Rutgers gets respectable, (which outside talent thinks we are - somewhat), NJ kids will want to come.
I call BS on the OP too. A kid who thinks Rutgers "stinks" isn't coming here no matter what. Especially if he's a "top" recruit.

Don't think so.
I offered nothing and notified those who could get the ball rolling.
Correct....AD's don't interfere during the season. They have reviews after the season is over.
Or giving the opponents a pep talk.I am guessing going in to the locker room after a loss and berating players isn't proper protocol either.

http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/sports/reeling-rutgers-storm-article-1.554552Who did that? A Rutgers AD? I could be wrong, but, I think it would be strange for an AD to interfere during the season like that.

And that was our best coach in the past 20 years - good Godhttp://www.nydailynews.com/archives/sports/reeling-rutgers-storm-article-1.554552
"...In the locker room afterward, coach Gary Waters invited AD and Villanova alumnus Bob Mulcahy to address the team. He opened by telling them he was embarrassed. "He was like, 'For the guys out there who think they're great - everybody (who) thinks they're going to the NBA - I talked to a scout (and) you're all not going to the NBA,' " senior Ricky Shields said. "He was taking personal shots all over the place.
Shields, who's made no secret of his NBA aspirations, also described Rutgers as a team "in crisis.
" Waters said his team is at "rock bottom" and that the RAC remains a huge advantage except that "we were playing so badly it was only keeping us in the games. "I saw it coming," he said. "We've been playing inconsistently for some time. We're 1-6 and should be 4-3.
" Waters had no idea what Mulcahy was going to say. "I thought it was appropriate," he said. "Some might not have taken it that way. . . . With Ricky it was a response to the moment. We talked (Sunday) and he let me know he'd let it go.
" Mulcahy spoke again at a team gathering Monday during which Waters says he did not apologize, but rather tried to clarify earlier remarks. The coach believes this episode could potentially strengthen his team because there has been much more communication the past three days. Of course, there also is the possibility he's lost the ability to direct some of his players; tonight's game may bear that out. "They're ready to play better," he said. "They're tired of it. . . . A win will help.
