Apologies if this is already posted somewhere, but how many ships are available for next year and how is recruiting going? I know about Geo and it looks like we have a ton of offers out.

Can anyone fill me in on the number of ships that will be available and who we have a realistic shot at?

Still time to find a couple of diamonds in the rough. I do know for a fact a lot of attention is being put on the 2018 NJ kids, as it is one of the best classes in a long time from what people who follow it have told me.

Not exactly a target response but Geo Baker was recently rated right near the top in the northeast rankings on a national recruiting website. The kid right in front of him is a 4*. IMHO what I've seen from him compared to what I've watched in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions this year he is a 4 in my mind. And that is truly unbiased. Best recruit since Mack (I'm not a huge Corey fan).

It's almost time to get some local recruits to some home games sitting behind the bench. Brandin Knight , Hobbs and Pikiell will get them there to see the team up close and personal.

How many ships will we have for 2018? Have to assume a decent showing this year (anywhere near .500 or north) would bode very well for that class.

At least 4....Williams, Freeman , Sa and Johnson. Hopefully Sanders stays at least one more year to make it 5 to go after the Fab 5 from Jersey.

The new facility will be big because the 2018 class will have a brand new practice by the summer going into their Sophomore year.

It's early in the season but I think it would be a mistake for Sanders to leave after this year. His outside shooting is still very questionable , especially if he wants to play in the NBA. He's not your typical point guard and lacks the outside shooting to be a shooting guard. Plus Rutgers as a team will continue to improve and their success can only enhance his potential draft status.

Myles Mack better than Corey Sanders? Really?

I'm just not a huge fan of his. Individually Corey is better, but I'd rather have Mack on my team. I understand I'll get some heat for that.

Oh, I thought you meant talent wise. I liked Myles alot as a gutsy player but he was too small to be a 2 and he didn't have the instincts to be a 1.

No, no, no! Corey has NBA talent and enough size and quickness to make it in the league. I'm talking college basketball and who I would want on my team right now. If Corey stays 4 years he could be a top player in the country. Hope that didn't get lost in translation. I think Corey has great potential I just haven't seen him grow into it yet.

I hope the remaining ship is for point guard. Sanders, Williams, and Johnson will all be gone after next season

Myles Mack was 5'9'', a poor defender, and not a true point guard. Mack was best suited for playing 10-15 MPG as a shooter off the bench that could spell the 1 or 2. Obviously at Rutgers he was asked to do more. Corey is a legit starting point guard, able to be the man at a high percentage of P5 schools.

If Corey matures and gets a perimeter shot watch out.

I'd be surprised if 1 more scholarship doesn't open up after this season.

I think that is a good bet. Not a fan of planning as it will happen though. I realize other schools do. Watching CJ Gettys the initial thought is just use a spot that frees up in April/May on something like that. In reality the success rate on those type of players has been low for RU. Maybe that changes with this staff.

Geo Baker is a combo guard who according to some can be our point guard. I was on the Alvarado bandwagon, but that passed us by now.

If Mack played defense for Pikiell like he did for Jordan he would never leave the bench. Ever. I appreciate that Mack stuck w/ RU during the dark days of Rice but his utter unwillingness to put any effort into defense other than going for a steal (more often than not leaving his team mates trying to cover for him) will always be the memory I have of him.

That's a fair point but I stand by what I said as far as how he would fit in this team

You kid. Myles was not a great defender because of his size and Eddie letting him go under screens. However how can you even say he only deserved 10-15 minutes per game. He single handily carried us in games his junior year and could get his shot off despite his size. If he had help at the point and could play the 2 guard with someone like Corey , he would have averaged 20 points a game. He is one of the best players to play on the banks. Your love of defense only, makes you so myopic it is laughable.

Soooo.... about potential recruiting targets?

I say another big man for 2017...a PF that can also slide into the 5 spot when needed....basically, a clone of Candido Sa. If not,we go into the fall 2018 with no returning PF's on the roster.

I think we roll the dice and fill that last scholarship on another 5th year big man, although if a really good late pickup comes up we will take it....I am 99.9999% sure it will be a big man though, 5th year or HS player....Its the only position of need, both in the short term and the long term.

Corey need to stay. And I believe he will as this ship continues to sail.
Corey will stay only if the NBA shows they don't want him. He tried
to go last year, and I think he will continue to send out feelers. Personally
I don't care for him, while acknowledging his talent though.
