Renegotiating NIL Deal

Not breaking anything. They told the kid no f’in way will give him what he wants. If he demands the $$ or he’s walking they have every right to say no way go ahead and walk.
Called negotiating- kid says he wants more or he walks and they say “walk”
We will find out if his “agent” f-ed him or not

His stats are decent but no way does he command the $4 mil. dollar price tag he was asking for. I don't even think he commands the $2.4 mil. he's paid for 63% comp. 19 TD 5 int. I mean Athan while 10% points less on comp., had more passing yds. 1 less TD pass, 2 more int. and they both rushed for 3 TD's and similar yds.

I agree it is negotiating. But if he says I’m going to walk if you don’t pay, then they didn’t end it, he did. In negotiation you can go extreme, but you have to be willing to deal with the consequences.

I would say his agent (or dad) screwed him. He was absolutely loved in Knoxville. Despite his not living up to expectations last year, he was worshipped on campus. He will never have that again. And he might not get his $4M at the next destination. I would say his leverage dropped a bit after TN let him walk.

Well, that is all part of any negotiation. When I join a new organization- I negotiate a severance package prior to taking the job. If they decide they don’t want to do that, they are free to hire someone else.
Yes that right .

Ummmmmm
Cliff got a million to be what many said to be a bench warming basketball player. .

I think they want to win….if Rutgers had an outgoing qb transfer they would take him if he was the right guy. They don’t hate Schiano….they hate the idea of Schiano being their head coach. At the time, he was the absolute wrong fit for their program. And if you were their fanbase, how could you possibly want a guy whose head coaching resume included a mediocre win/loss record at Rutgers and a crash and burn at Tampa Bay. No way in the world anyone could have been happy with bringing him in to run tbeir program. But I don’t think they dislike the guy…they just didn’t want him. Today they could not care less about him or Rutgers.

not sure if noted here but ESPN said he wanted $4mil vs. the measly $2.4 he was getting.

You also don't hear them complain when their school hires a coach who is under contract with another team, or when their school breaks its contract with the conference to join one that pays much better. Everybody else in college sports treats all contracts as negotiable, who can expect the players to act any differently?

Matter of fact, this may be the last best time for players to exercise what leverage they have if this Clearinghouse turns out to be what we're being told it is.
Two words..Buyout clause.

The kid made $2M sitting the bench his true freshman year and then another $2.4 last season (r-frosh). Would have been “earned@ a total of almost $7M by the end of is r-soph year. I don’t feel bad for him.

Another called shot, my surprise is he did it for the spring game, and not when it counted. This is not business! In the real world you can't hold your employer hostage at your whim.

What is the current average cost?

Nationwide, the average cost of a dozen Grade A eggs was $6.22 in March 2025

I just paid $4.99 free range brown at Shop Rite last Friday 😁
In other words Nico counted his chickens before they hatched and wound up with egg on his face when Tennessee became hard boiled 🙃

look at you lol. 👍
Perhaps UT cracked under pressure but Qbs are a dime a dozen . Perhaps they should have sat on it and let it hatch a bit more but at least they don't look like they have to scramble for the next one. Should be over fairly easy.

So you're taking the sunny-side up approach since Tennessee don't care if their eggs Benedict is poached because they won't waffle for him to stay .

Darn!!! I better spend less time on this board
I'm beginning to understand what I'm talking about 🥸

My take ? F him and the rest of these mercenaries who know 1 thing. Me.

I think they should just let 3-5 top players walk who act like this. Ruin their careers and set a precedent. Blackball them. They will be begging to play for free. Very few college kids can go right from high school (or one and done) to the league. They need college sports. This is not how this was supposed to work but it IS how most knew it would end up. Sean Salisbury has some great ideas to start. Implement them already.

It’s about timing and protocol. Sure, players can negotiate, but you can’t just skip a practice and expect that all will be forgiven when you return. This isn’t pro football.

Also, you can’t have players negotiating during spring practices. Negotiations should be done immediately after the season. Negotiating during the spring, then leaving, screws your fellow teammates, the coaching staff, and the fan base.

These two items are the MINIMUM standards that should be adopted immediately. Of course, there are many other reforms that need to reign in the NIL circus.

This can also lead to a shady part of the business not talked about yet. Let's say you have a team in your conference with a dominate player but you know he and his family are NIL driven. And we know that the big teams are tampering all of the time.

what is to stop a big ole dirty team to reach out to that top player and give them the "whisper" we got this cash waiting for you. Kid and his family pull a move like this kid did, gets dropped by their current team. Team 2 who tampered, just walks away. Now, their rival loses a top player and you are not obligated to sign or pay him.

This is still the wild west, no matter how you slice it.

Nico might get a few offers , though it seems like some top programs ilks Notre Dame and USC arn't interested and James Madison already has a NIL jumper going there .
I wonder what type of NIL money the ex running rebel got to go to James Madison or just being a freebie because no one want to pay for his services
>Quarterback Matthew Sluka, who created a national conversation about the ramifications of name, image and likeness after departing UNLV, has transferred to James Madison. His new school posted a graphic of Sluka draped in a royal purple robe with a crown atop his head to celebrate his transfer to the Dukes.<

Just like pro sports, there will always be one who ponies up. Remember the Texas Rangers A-Rod contract. This is what made EVERY pro league get away from this system. It only takes one team, or conference to blow the roof off the economics.

If you want go back and read the old threads on this. It makes me sick how many called shots I have already. Enjoy it, I hope the poison acts slower from here. Such a shame.

Guy slipped out on meetings and practice. He broke the agreement.

I agree with you. My point was in response to someone suggesting TN broke the agreement. This is on Nico, not TN. And as more info comes out it becomes clear his dad was slimy and the agent went even further. The kid is likely the victim of his overbearing and greedy father and a sleazy agent. But at the end of they day, he went along with it all.

I agree. I was responding to that other guy that always seems on the wrong side of everything

Another problem the NIL might be causing
>In short, the suits argue that the plaintiffs are unlikely to be drafted but could stand to make money if they return to school in 2025. Jones made $100,000 last year and could earn $500,000 if he returns, while the other three have $150,000 offers if eligible, the suit said.<

NCAA football and basketball are going to have unlimited time and 32 year olds playing
who could never make it to pro football.
