Per WHTR TV in Indy...though Yahoo report says this report is untrue.

We shall see.

Here's the thing, and I'm a HUGE fan of what Fleck has done at WMU, but...he's NOT going to be able to recruit the type of kids he can, now, at Purdue. It's a very, very different monster he'll be taking on there both academically and geographically.

I always thought a B10 school would be his most likely destination and Purdue high on the list as the type of school. We'll see if he can make the step up now. This is the year to do it. He's done well in taking advantage of some MAC coaches leaving and making a weak MAC. He's also got them with the inside track on the G5 playoff spot. No better time to leave with your stock so high.

But what kind of school did you expect him to wind up at? Purdue or something along those lines is exactly the type of job I thought he'd be able to get.

What happened to the Les Miles to Purdue rumor?
Personally, I always found that rumor weird but you never know. His resume should be able to get a better job than that. If Oregon let Helfrich go I'd wonder about something along those lines or maybe something a slight step below like a Baylor.

People here really overhyped him thinking he would be in the running for an elite job. This isn't a good spot for him and they won't be able to pay the coordinators he needs. Surprised Purdue went this route again.

Oh him getting the job makes sense, no question, but maybe hold on for another year and see what opens up, maybe, before taking of tackling this? Again, it's recruiting at Purdue that is a huge challenge - more so than at RU - and Fleck will have to do it their way, not his way, in West Lafayette. Big challenge is all I'm saying.

I agree it's a tough job but it's about the status of job you can expect for him. Frankly the midwest region in the B10 always seemed like the most likely landing spot provided there were openings. He's in the west so it's the "easier" half and I don't think expectations will be too high. If he can get 8 win seasons or so I think people will be happy.

Waiting a year sounds good but like I said above his stock might not be this high again. Weak MAC which he turned into an undefeated season and a very good shot at the G5 playoff spot. Will that materialize again next year? That's a risk.

This.
Too bad Fleck did not have his great season last year.
What a difference it would be with Fleck vs. Ash.

Reports from USA today that Oregon has decided to move on from Mark Helfrich and that Fleck and Bryan Harsin are considered candidates. McMurphy says no decision made yet on Helfrich. 11.6M buyout for Helfrich. Don't forget 10M for Strong. This is why I say don't worry about budget as much as finding the right guy. What does spending all that money get these schools?

If I'm Fleck and Oregon is actually on the table, you crawl to that job. No mention of Les Miles in the article.

I could see Fleck going to Arizona, if Rich Rod gets fired.
Outside of the midwest, that type of school was my next logical landing spot. I think Rich Rod has a big buyout though but not sure they have the Oregon/Texas/LSU size wallets to pay it.

You can't row a boiler. Purdue seems like an odd duck.

Speaking of ducks, you can row a duck. So Oregon is a good fit.

That said, thought he had to have ties to the midwest because his ex-wife and kids are in the St. Louis area?

99.9% sure he's a done deal to Purdue and he plans on hitting NJ hard for recruits.

What about ND for Fleck? Kelly could be on a hot seat considering their record this year and the infractions.

Can't see ND boosters accepting that. Fleck is having a great season but not the type that a top 5 program looks for.

I think the Oregon job will go to Scott Frost if his buyout from UCF isn't to high.
Frost was a successful OC from 2013 to 2015 and went 33-8 in that time.
Then he took over a poor UCF program that went 0-12 in 2015 and turned it into a bowl eligible (6-6) team this season.

As for Fleck to Purdue , if the money's right and 5 year contract ,he'll go.

He is a guy that you bring in to rebuild a program to respectability, like RU.

Do you really want to be the head football coach at the No. 2 school in a basketball-first state? Perhaps not, but striking while the iron is hot works both ways, and he can't be any hotter than 12-0 and a possible Cotton Bowl spot.
